Chapple, the jockey, died at Newmarket, in the sixty-third year of his age. A portrait, and full memoir of him, appeared in the January number of the magazine for 1852. There is nothing to add to it. The racing of the month has still been in favour of Sir Joseph Hawley. A combination of circumstances have found for him another strong Derby favourite in Musjid ; while Fitz Roland's more recent doings will make him, sooner or later, a great horse for the Leger. Nevertheless Mr. Howard's stable must yet be marked "dangerous.' Eclipse, after having been condemned outright at Doncaster, was not so far from winning the Derby; and Sedbury, after being still more disrespectfully spoken of at Epsom, proves himself at Ascot once more a first-class race horse. form" may come again.
