Mr. Childs offered the following resolution:

Resolved, that C. C. Sholes, editor of the Wisconsin Democrat, at Green Bay, be employed to print the journal of this house for the present session, and that he be allowed the usual price for the same.

Mr. Engle moved to postpone the consideration of the resolution until Monday next; and the question being taken, It was decided in the negative.

Mr. Nowlin moved to lay the resolution on the table;
Which was decided in the negative.

Mr. Quigley moved the following amendment:-Strike out all after the word "Resolved," and insert "That the printing of the journal of this house be given to the lowest and best bidder."

The yeas and hays being called for, were as follows:

Mr. Box moved to lay the resolution on the table, and, it being a privileged question,

It was first put and decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Parkinson offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That M. D. Holbrook, editor of the Miner's Free Press, printer at Mineral Point, be employed to print the laws passed by the legislative assembly at its present session, and that he be allowed the usual price for the same, the Council concurring herein.

Mr. Chance moved to lay the resolution on the table; which was decided in the negative.

Mr. Quigley moved to strike out " M. D. Holbrook, editor of the Miner's Free Press, printer at Mineral Point," and insert "Corriell, King & Russell, editors of the Iowa News at Dubuque."

The yeas and nays being called for, were taken, and were as follow:

Yeas:-Messrs. Chance, Engle, Nowlin, Quigley, and Wheeler-5.

Mr. M'Gregor offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That Andrew F. Russell and Henry F. Cox, be employed to prepare the journal of the House of Representatives of the present session, for the press.

On motion of Mr. Sheldon,

The resolution was laid on the table.

Mr. Jenkins asked leave of absence for Mr. Box until Tuesday next.

Leave was granted.

Mr. Teas asked leave to withdraw the petitions of Martha Newton and Lucinda Jones.

Leave was granted.

On motion of Mr. Engle,

The House adjourned until Monday next, at 10 o'clock, A. M.

Monday, December 4, 1837.

The journal of Saturday was read and corrected.

Mr. McGregor presented the petition of inhabitants of Dubuque and Muscatine counties, praying for the organization of a new county to be formed out of the said counties.

Referred to a select committee, to consist of the delegation from Dubuque county.

Mr. Sholes offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That a select committee of three be appointed with power to send for persons and papers, to investigate the truth of statements made by a certain John Wilson, calculated to injure the reputation and destroy the standing of an honourable member of this house; and that said committee be instructed to report as soon as practicable.

The resolution was adopted, and

Messrs. Sholes, Engle, and Sheldon were appointed said committee.

On motion of Mr. M'Knight,

Resolved, That this house do give the preparing of the journal of this house for publication, to Mr. Catlin, chief clerk thereof, and that he be allowed the sum of dollars per day,

for the time spent therein.

On motion of Mr. Smith,

The said resolution was reconsidered.

Mr. Sheldon moved to amend the said resolution, by striking out all after the blank, and inserting, "two hundred dollars therefor."

The amendment was agreed to.

Mr. Engle moved further to amend the resolution, by inserting between the words "house" and "for," the words, "at its present session."

The amendment was adopted.

The resolution as amended, was then adopted..

On motion of Mr. Brunson,

Resolved, That a select committee be appointed for the purpose of taking into consideration the expediency of drafting a memorial to the Congress of the United States, praying that the Indian title to the island on the south side of Lake Superior, known by the name of Magalen or La Pointe, may be extinguished.

Messrs. Brunson, Durkee, and M'Williams, were appointed the committee.

Mr. McWilliams reported a resolution, respecting a ship canal,
