mitted bill No. 109, entitled "A bill to divorce Louisa Ann Sibley from her husband William T. Sibley," reported said bill without amendment.

The rule requiring all bills to be considered in committee of the whole, was suspended with reference to said bill; and the bill was then amended by inserting after the word 'heretofore,' in the 3d line, the words and now.'

Ordered, that the said bill be engrossed for the third reading.

The 16th rule was then suspended with reference to said bill, which was read the third time, passed, and title agreed to. Ordered, that the clerk request the Council to concur in the said bill.

Mr. Engle, by leave, introduced bill 123, entitled

"A bill to divorce Martha Newton from her husband John C. Newton," and bill No. 124, entitled "A bill to divorce Abraham Jones and Lucinda Jones from the bonds of matrimony, and for other purposes," which were severally read the first and second times. The rule requiring all bills to be considered in the committee of the whole was suspended with reference to said bills; which were then ordered to be engrossed for the third reading. The 16th rule was then suspended, and said bills were read the third time, passed, and the titles thereof agreed to.

Ordered, that the clerk request the concurrence of the Council in the said bills.

Mr. Box introduced bill No. 125, entitled

"A bill for an act to incorporate the town of Fort Madison;' which was read the first time, and laid on the table.

Mr. Parkinson introduced bill No. 126, entitled

"A bill for the benefit of the Iowa Lodge, No. One, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows;" which was read the first. time, and laid on the table.

Bill No. 11, Council file, was taken up, and, on motion of Mr. Quigley, the amendment made by the Council to the amendment of the house, viz:

Strike out the name of "John S. David," and insert in lieu thereof the name of "Hiram C. Bennet," was agreed to. On motion of Mr. Sheldon.

The amendment made by the house in the 6th line of the 22d section, and to which the Council disagreed, was insisted

on.

Ordered, that the clerk acquaint the Council thereof.

Bill No. 59, Council file, entiled "A bill to amend an act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Fox river Hydraulic Company,' was then read the first and second times.

The house resolved itself into a committee of the whole on said bill; Mr. Sholes in the chair.

After some time the committee rose, and by their chairman reported said bill with an amendment.

The amendment made in committee was agreed to, and The bill was ordered to be engrossed for the third reading. The 16th rule was then suspended, and said bill was read the third time, and passed.

Ordered, that the Council be informed.

Bill No. 44, Council file, entitled "A bill for the benefit of the towns of Belleview and Peru, in the original county of Dubuque," was then read the first and second times.

On motion of Mr. Quigley,

The house resolved itself into a committee of the whole on said bill; Mr. Nowlin in the chair.

After some time the committee rose, and by their chairman reported said bill without amendment.

The 16th rule was then suspended with reference to said bill, which was read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed to.

Ordered, that the Council be informed.

Bill No. 20, Council file, entitled, "A bill to amend and alter

an act entitled 'An act to incorporate the La Fontaine Rail Road Company,' was read the first and second times.

After some time the committee rose, and by their chairman reported said bill with amendments.

The amendments made in committee were agreed to, and The bill was ordered to be engrossed and read the third time.

The 16th rule was suspended with reference to said bill, which was then read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed to.

Bill No. 48, Council file, entitled "A bill to incorporate the Racine Seminary," was read the first and second times.

On motion of Mr. Sheldon,

The house resolved itself into a committee of the whole on said bill; Mr. Jenkins in the chair.

After some time the committee rose, and by their chairman reported said bill without amendment.

The bill was amended by inserting after the word “constitution," in the 9th line of the 4th section, the words " or laws." The bill was then ordered to be engrossed for the third reading.

The 16th rule was then suspended with reference to said bill, which was read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed to.

Ordered, that the Council be informed.

On motion of Mr. Sholes,

The undermentioned bills, from the Council, were severally read the first and second times, viz:

No. 57, "A bill to locate and establish the seat of justice of Jefferson county, in this territory."

No. 45, "A bill to establish and regulate ferries in the county of Milwaukee and the counties thereto attached for judicial purposes."

No. 61, "A bill to change the corporate powers of the village of Milwaukee."

No. 37, "A bill to authorize John Dowling and James Sproule to erect toll bridges across the Pecatonica river."

The house then resolved itself into a committee of the whole for the consideration of the said several bills; Mr. Sholes in the chair.

After some time the committee rose and reported bills numbered 37, 45, and 57, without amendments, and bill No. 61 with amendments.

The amendments made to bill No. 61 were agreed to.

Mr. Parkinson offered the following amendment to bill No. 37, viz:

In the 1st section, 4th line, strike out " east," and insert "the west."

The yeas and nays being called for, were as follow:

So the amendment was agreed to.

The bill was further amended by striking out in the 5th line, first section, the words "one bridge." Strike out in the same section all after the word "furnace," in the 6th line, to the word "provided," in the 9th line. In the 12th line, strike out "streams," and insert "stream."

The said bill was then ordered to be engrossed for the third reading.

The 16th rule was then suspended in reference to said bill, the bill read the third time, passed, title amended to read,

"A bill to authorize John Dowling and James Sproule to erect a toll bridge across the west fork of the Pecatonica ri

ver."

Ordered, that the Council be informed.

Bills numbered 61, 45, and 57, were then severally ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

The 16th rule being suspended in reference thereto, they were severally read the third time, passed, titles thereof agreed to, except bill No. 47, which was amended to read,

"A bill to locate and establish the seat of justice of Jefferson county."

Ordered, that the Council be informed.
