"Mr. Speaker-The Council have passed resolution No. 6, entitled "Resolution relative to publication of the laws;" and have concurred in bill No. 12 of this House, entitled "A bill relating to the general election for the year 1840," with an amendment thereto; in which resolution and amendment I am directed to ask the concurrence of this House;

"And have concurred in the report of the committee of conference in relation to the disagreeing vote of the two Houses on bill No. 8, of this House, entitled "A bill relating to the duties of register of deeds of the county of Dane," and have receded from their second and third amendments to said bill.

"The Council have also appointed Messrs. Bullen and Learned a committee of conference on their part, to confer with a similar committee hereby requested to be appointed by this House, in relation to resolution No. 1, of the Council, entitled "Resolution relative to adjournment," and the amendment of this House thereto.

"The Governor has notified the Council that he did on this day examine and approve the following, to wit:

"An act to change the time of holding courts in the second judicial district."

"An act to amend an act entitled An act in relation to col. lectors, assessors and supervisors of roads."

"An act to amend an act entitled an act to provide for the support of common schools and for other purposes ;" and

"An act to establish certain territorial roads."

Mr. Whiton, from the joint committee of conference, to which the subject was referred, made the following report:

A majority of the committee of conference appointed on the disagreeing vote of the two Houses, relative to bill No. 8, of this House, entitled "A bill relating to the duties of register of deeds of the county of Dane," report, that they have agreed to recom

mend to the Council to recede from their amendments to said bill. The report was adopted, and the Council ordered to be acquainted therewith.

Resolution No. 1, relating to adjournment of the Legislature, in which the Council had non-concurred in the amendment of the House and had requested a conference, was taken up.

On motion of Mr. Bracken.

A call of the House was made, when Mr. Wells was excused from attendance on the House.

The question was then taken on appointing a committee of con ference on the said resolution, and was unanimously decided in the affirmative.

The Speaker appointed Messrs. Sholes and Whiton the said committee on the part of the House.

Mr. Sholes asked to be and was excused from serving on the said committee.

The Speaker then appointed Mr. Cruson of the said committee, who was also excused.

The Speaker then appointed Mr. Shackelford, who was excused by the House.

Whereupon, Mr. Longstreet was appointed.

Ordered, That the Council be acquainted therewith.

Bill No. 12, entitled "A bill relating to the general election for the year 1840, returned from the Council with an amendment, was considered, and the amendment concurred in.

Ordered, That the Council be acquainted therewith.

Resolution No. 6, relative to publication of the laws, was read the first and second time.

On motion of Mr. Sholes,

The House resolved itself into committee of the whole on the following bill and resolutions, Mr. Bracken in the chair, to wit ; No. 6. "Resolutions relative to publication of the laws."

No. 14. "A bill to create a fund for the benefit of the creditors

of certain moneyed corporations and for other purposes;" and

After a short time the committee rose and reported resolutions

No. 6 with an amendment, and bill No. 14 and resolution relating

to the reporter of Supreme Court, without amendment.

The report of the committee on resolutions No. 6 was agreed to,

The resolution relating to the duties of reporter of Supreme Court was indefinitely postponed.

"An act relating to the general election for the year 1840;" and

"An act to organize the county of Washington and for other purposes."

Mr. Longstreet, from the joint committee of conference, to which the subject was referred, made the following report:

Strike out of the amendment of the House the following words: the next regular session of the Legislative Assembly shall be held at Green Bay, in the county of Brown :" strike out of the. said amendment the words "Thursday, the thirteenth instant," and insert in lieu thereof the words "Friday, the fourteenth inst. at eight o'clock, A. M.”

A motion was then made by Mr. Story that the report be adopted and pending the question thereon,

Mr. Childs moved a call of the House; which was not ordered. The question was then taken on the motion of Mr. Story.

And the ayes and noes being called for, were as follows:

Resolution No. 6, (C. F.) entitled "Resolutions relative to publication of the laws," was read the third time, passed, and the title agreed to; the rule prohibiting it from being so read having been suspended for that purpose.

Ordered, That the Council be requested to concur in the amendment to said resolution.

On motion of Mr. Cruson,

The House resolved itself into committee of the whole, on bill No. 13, Mr. Billings in the chair, entitled "A bill to provide for the compensation of the officers of the Legislative Assembly and for other purposes."

After a short time the committee rose and reported the bill with sundry amendments;
