Advice to the Fair Sex!

The committee of health, says the Gazette de Sante of Paris, have inquired into the cause why head, tooth, and jaw-aches, were more common to the female than to the male sex has finally discovered, that this excessive dispropor.. tion originated from women wearing gilt copper, or bad gold earings, that the perspiration produced verdigris, which entering the lymphatic parts of the blood, oocasioned

violent pains that resisted common remedies.

After this important discovery, the officers of health or dered their patients afflicted with the above camplaints to relinguish their bad ear-rings, and substitute others made of good gold, and they had the satisfaction to see them recover without the aid of other remedies!!

ANECDOTES..

Of General Graham.

General Graham, it is supposed, through the ignorance of La Pena, under whose command he was placed, found himself so circumstanced as scarcely to allow him time to form; with that presence of mind which marks a great commander, he instantly exclaim ed to his brave troops My lads there is the enemy spare your powder, but give them plenty of steel.'

A dervish went to a miser, and wanted something of him.~ The miser said, 'If you consent to one proposal of mine, I will do whatever you require." The dervish asked what it was,

SCENE OF HORROR. A London paper of August 25, says, the four unhappy men left for execution at the late London assizes, suffered the dreadful penalty attached to their crimes on Friday last. Atkinson gave to Mr. Merryweather, the governor of the goal, bills to the amount of 351. to be sent to Messrs. Gee and

Clark, of Boston, whose right he declared it was, and he lamented that it was all the restitution he was able to make. At 11 o'clock the four men were brought forth from the prison into the castle yard, and placed in a cart. The awful procession then advanced to the usual place of execution, a little north of Lincoln. Marshal first ascended the scaffold, Sawyer, next, Wakelin was

third, and Atkinson last. They successively addressed a few words to the surrounding multitude, hoping that their unhappy situation would serve as a watning to you all; sabbath breaking, bad women, and Idle company have brought me to this untimely end; but I have mad my peace with the Almighty, and shall soon get rid of this wicked worlk. He spoke with great firmness. and seemed perfectly resigned. The othors were much more depressed by their miserable situation.

A shocking accident happened in this county on Sunday the 21st ult. A little daughter of Sterling Beasley, about 11 years of age, in company with another small girl and boy, were searching for Angelical root, when they unhappily mistook the wild Carrot for it (to which it bears a great resemblance, but which is rank poison.) Mr. Beasley's daugh. ter ate the most of it, and fell a sacrifice to her mistake in about two hours! The other little girl was very ill, but oil be. ing given her in time, she recovered. The boy did not like the taste of the root and declined eating of it. We hope this melancholy catrastrophe will lead parents to caution their children very seriously against searching after Ange. lica, lest they should fall into the like fatal error.
