449 LYSONS (S.) RELIQUIÆ BRITANNICO-ROMANE; CONTAINING FIGURES OF ROMAN ANTIQUITIES DISCOVERED IN THE VARIOUS PARTS OF

ENGLAND, 3 vols. in one, 1813-17; AN ACCOUNT OF ROMAN ANTIQUITIES DISCOVERED AT WOODCHESTER, one vol. 1797, and A COLLection of GLOUCESTERSHIRE ANTIQUITIES, Large Paper, printed as a sequel to the foregoing, one vol. 1804, together 5 vols. in 3, comprising nearly 300 interesting plates, many of which are BEAUTIFULLY COLOURED, atlas folio, £42. 1797-1817

Complete sets of the above are now of rare occurrence; of the Reliquia Britannico-Romana, only 200 copies of the whole work were printed off, "not with the view of making a scarce book, but from the great difficulty of getting even that number properly coloured under the editor's inspection." It has been justly stated with reference to the account of Roman Antiquities discovered at Woodchester that "Such a specimen of ingenuity, unwearied zeal and critical accuracy, in delineating and illustrating these relics of antiquity, has rarely been equalled, certainly never surpassed." The following inscription is on the fly-leaf of two volumes of the

above set, "Catherine Susanna Lysons, the gift of her Father, Danl. Lysons, April 8th, 1830."
