For many years it was known that the engrossed copy of the Book of Common Prayer appended to the Act of Uniformity had become detached and was missing; but, in 1867, its production being necessary, search was made, and, principally through the exertions of Dean Stanley, it was discovered in the House of Lords. With it was also found the printed Prayer Book of 1636, containing the MS. alterations, that being the draft of our present version as settled in Convocation in 1661, and is the original of the Parliamentary Transcript, from which was printed "the Sealed Book" of 1662. This document, the existence of which was unknown till 1867, is now facsimiled page for page, and published under the authority of the Commissioners of H. M. Treasury, at the recommendation of the Royal Commission on Ritual, a limited number of copies only being printed. Besides its value and interest as a separate work, it constitutes an important addition to be made to Pi kering's reprints of the Liturgies of the Church of England, with which unique series this fine reproduction ranges

in size.

A MOST INTERESTING LETTER, in which he alludes to the paper in the Spectator, "the Vision of Mirza," as a piece that struck his young fancy before he was capable of fixing an idea to a word of three syllables. According to the custom of his forefathers, he always kept the fifth day of the moon," Holy, after having washed myself and offered up my morning Devotions," &c. "Still I am a very sincere believer in the Bible." Then follow some verses in reference to the Ass he proposes to interweave in "the Poet's Progress."
