SHAKESPEARE'S (W.) WORKS, THE TEXT FORMED FROM A NEW COLLATION OF THE EARLY EDITIONS; to which are added all the Original Novels and Tales on which the Plays are founded; copious Archæological Annotations on each Play; an Essay on the formation of the Text; and a Life of the Poet, by J. O. Halliwell, Esq. handsomely printed on large and thick paper, illustrated by 142 plates, comprising facsimiles of portions of rare editions of the author's works, portraits, views, etc. and a multitude of pretty wood engravings by Fairholt, 16 vols. folio, half morocco, edges uncut, £70.

1853-65

The impression of this truly magnificent edition of the works of Shakespeare was strictly limited to 150 copies; and to render the subscribers secure against the depreciation of their property, all the engravings were destroyed by the editor and Mr. Fairholt. The object of the Editor, "to produce an edition of the works of Shakespeare, accompanied by a collection of all the facts and documents respecting their literary history of any importance that have yet been discovered; by copious and discursive annotations on their obsolete phraseology, and obscure allusions, elucidated, by archaeological engravings, and by illustrative extracts from contemporary works, exhibiting the popular opinion of the time on natural history, science, and philosophy, many of which are adopted or sfaded to by the great dramatist," has been fully attained by the publication of this work, which places within certain limits, a complete library of everything tending to illustrate the writings of the Bard of Avon.

A MAGNIFICENT LARGE PAPER COPY.
