I have inserted many original Hymns, for which am alone responsible. I intended to have disti guished these by a prefixed or added mark, to ha screened them among my Friends, by the exercise their affection for me, from the rigour of criticism. hope, however, in such company as WATTS, Do DRIDGE, COWPER, NEWTON, TOPLADY, STEEL and other names of equal veneration and value, th may escape, by serving as a foil to exhibit, with st greater lustre, the beauties of Poetry and the charı of Piety, to which, though they aspire, they have n as yet attained.

That the present publication may, by the divin blessing, be made the means of instruction and consi lation to many, is the fervent prayer of

CHARG
Adam our father and our head
A debtor to mercy alone
Adore and tremble, for our God
A good High Priest is come
Ah, lovely appearance of death
Alas! and did my Saviour bleed
All hail, incarnate God
All hail the power of Jesu's name
All people, that on earth do dwell
All ye that pass by
Almighty Maker God
Almighty God, have we not heard
Almighty God, display thy grace
Am I a soldier of the cross
And art thou, gracious Master, gone
And is this life prolong'd to me
And let our bodies part
And must this body die
And will the Judge descend
And does the kind Redeemer stoop
And can it be that I should gain
Angels, roll the stone away
Another six days work is done
Another year how swiftly run
Are there not in the labourer's day
Arise, my soul, my joyful powers
Arm of the Lord, awake, awake
As a shepherd loves to keep
As the sun's enlivening eye
At anchor laid, remote from home
At thy command, I meekly yield
Attend, while God's exalted Son
Awake, our drowsy souls
Awake, my soul, in joyful lays
Awake, my heart, arise, my tongue
Awake, and sing the song
Awake, our souls, away, our fears
Awake, my soul, and with the sun
Away with our sorrow and fear
