M. 77.6 Gold and filver-fith sport in the caual.-7 Great numbers of rooks fréquent Norwood to feed on the caterpillars of the phalena tortrix viridana, which have ftript the oaks and elms.-9 White-thorn hedges lain almoft bare by the caterpillars of the phalena tinea padella. Much hay-making, a very fhort crop; wheat in bloom, fhort firaw and ears. Plants in general much annoyed by caterpillars, which were foftered by the hot and dry weather.—11 Swifts in large numbers bufily engaged at Norwood in catching the moths, which proceed from the caterpillars that have devoured the oaken leaves; most of the trees are nearly as naked as in winter.-12 Bloom of Portugal laurel perfumes the air at confiderable distance.
