Wherefore let him that speaketh in an a Brethren, be not children in underunknown tongue pray that he may in-standing: howbeit in malice be ye chilterpret. dren, but in understanding be * men.

VER. 14.

Ἐὰν γὰρ προσεύχωμαι γλώσσῃ, τὸ πνεῦ μά μου προσεύχεται, ὁ δὲ νοῦς μου ἄκαρπός ἐστι·

For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

VER. 15.

Τί οὖν ἐστι ; προσεύξομαι τῷ πνεύματι, προσεύξομαι δὲ καὶ τῷ νοί. ψαλῶ τῷ πνεύματι, ψαλῶ δὲ καὶ τῷ νοι·

Ἐν τῷ νόμῳ γέγραπται· Ὅτι ἐν ἑτερογλώσσας, καὶ ἐν χείλεσιν ἑτέρας λαλήσω τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ, καὶ οὐδ ̓ οὕτως εἰσακούσονταί μου, λέγει Κύριος.

Ωστε αἱ γλῶσσαι εἰς σημεῖον εἰσιν, οὐ τοῖς πιστεύουσιν, ἀλλὰ τοῖς ἀπίστοις· ἡ δὲ προφητεία, οὐ τοῖς ἀπίστοις, ἀλλὰ τοῖς

πιστεύουσιν.

a Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not : b but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

VER. 23.

Ἐὰν οὖν συνέλθη ἡ ἐκκλησία ὅλη ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ, καὶ πάντες γλώσσαις λαλῶσιν, εἰσέλθωσι δὲ ἰδιῶται ἢ ἄπιστοι, οὐκ ἐροῦσιν ὅτι μαίνεσθε ;

If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

VER. 24,

Ἐὰν δὲ πάντες προφητεύωσιν, εἰσέλθῃ δέ τις ἄπιστος, ἡ ἰδιώτης, ἐλέγχεται ὑπὸ πάν των, ἀνακρίνεται ὑπὸ πάντων·

But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: VER. 25.

Καὶ οὕτω τὰ κρυπτὰ τῆς καρδίας αὐτοῦ φανερὰ γίνεται· καὶ οὕτω πεσὼν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον, προσκυνήσει τῷ Θεῷ, ἀπαγγέλλων ὅτι ὁ Θεὸς ὄντως ἐν ὑμῖν ἐστι.

And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, und report that God is in you of a truth.

VER. 26.

Τί οὖν ἐστιν, ἀδελφοὶ ; ὅταν συνέρχησθε, ἕκαστος ὑμῶν ψαλμὸν ἔχει, διδαχὴν ἔχει, γλῶσσαν ἔχει, ἀποκάλυψιν ἔχει· ἑρμηνείαν ἔχει· πάντα πρὸς οἰκοδομὴν γενέσθω.

How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. a Let all things be done unto edifying.

VER. 27.

Είτε γλώσσῃ τις λαλεῖ, κατὰ δύο, ἢ τὸ πλεῖστον τρεῖς, καὶ ἀνὰ μέρος· καὶ εἰς διερ μηνευέτω.

If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

VER. 28.

Εἂν δὲ μὴ ᾖ διερμηνευτής, σιγάτω ἐν ἐκκλησία· ἑαυτῷ δὲ λαλείτῳ καὶ τῷ Θεῷ.

But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

VER. 29.

Προφῆται δὲ δύο ἢ τρεῖς λαλείτωσαν, καὶ οἱ ἄλλοι διακρινέτωσαν.

Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

VER. 30.

̓Εὰν δὲ ἄλλῳ ἀποκαλυφθῇ καθημένα, ὁ πρῶτος σιγάτω.

If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.

VER. 31.

Δύνασθε γὰς καθ ̓ ἕνα πάντες προφή τεύειν, ἵνα πάντες μανθάνωσι, καὶ πάντες παρακαλῶνται.

For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, und all may be comforted.

VER. 32.

Καὶ πνεύματα προφητῶν προφήταις ὑποτάσσεται.

a And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

a Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world, 1 John iv. 1.

VER. 33.

Οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ἀκαταστασίας ὁ Θεὸς, ἀλλ ̓ εἰρήνης, ὡς ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῶν ἁγίω.

But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with

tongues.

VER. 40.

Πάντα εὐσχημόνως καὶ κατὰ τάξιν γινέσθω.

CHAP. XV.-VER. 1. Γνωρίζω δὲ ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοὶ, τὸ εὐαγγέλιον ὃ εὐηγγελισάμην ὑμῖν, ὃ καὶ παρελάβετε, ἐν ᾧ καὶ ἑστήκατε.

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand ;

Δι ̓ οὗ καὶ σώζεσθι, τίνι λόγῳ εὐηγγε λισάμην ὑμῖν εἰ κατέχετε· ἐκτὸς εἰ μὴ, εἰκῆ ἐπιστεύσατε.

Αἱ γυναῖκες ὑμῶν ἐν ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις σιγάτωσαν· οὐ γὰρ ἐπιτέτραπται αὐταῖς λαλεῖν, ἀλλ ̓ ὑποτάσσεσθαι, καθὼς καὶ ὁ νόμος λέγει.

a Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; b but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

a Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence, 1 Tim. ii. 11, 12.

VER. 35.

Εἰ δέ τι μαθεῖν θέλουσιν, ἐν οἴκῳ τοὺς ἰδίους ἄνδρας ἐπερωτάτωσαν· αἰσχρὸν γάρ ἐστι γυναιξὶν ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ λαλεῖν.

And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

VER. 36.

Ἡ ἀφ ̓ ὑμῶν ὁ λόγος τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐξῆλθεν ; ἢ εἰς ὑμᾶς μόνους κατήντησεν ;

a What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

a And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem, Isa. ii. 3.

VER. 37.

Εἴ τις δοκεῖ προφήτης εἶναι ἡ πνευματικὸς, ἐπιγινωσκέτω ἃ γράφω ὑμῖν, ὅτι τοῦ Κυρίου εἰσὶν ἐντολαί·

a If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

VER. 12.

Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς κηρύσσεταί ὅτι ἐκ νεκρῶν εγήγερται, πῶς λέγουσί τινες ἐν ὑμῖν, ὅτι ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἐστιν;

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

VER. 13.

1 COR. XV. 13-19.

Εἰ δὲ ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν, οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται.

But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen :

VER. 14.

Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται, κενὸν ἄρα Τὸ κήρυγμα ἡμῶν, κενὴ δὲ καὶ ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν.

* And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

VER. 15.

Εὑρισκόμεθα δὲ καὶ ψευδομάρτυρες τοῦ Θεοῦ· ὅτι ἐμαρτυρήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι ἤγειρε τὸν Χριστόν· ὃν οὐκ ἤγειρεν, εἴπερ ἄρα νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται.

Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead

VER. 16.

a For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death : for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to We are fools for angels, and to men. Even unto this present hour we both hunger and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place; And labour, working with our own hands:

For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

VER. 17.

Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται, ματαία ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν· ἔτι ἔστε ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν.

a And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses, xiii. 38, 39. Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification, Rom. iv. 25. But this man, because

But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple thas he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? Matt. x. 2125. Then shall they deliver you up
