lection of Anniversaries, rather than a strictly chronological record. All previous compilations of dates have separated the events by years, so that to be able to find what transpired on January 1st, for instance, it was necessary to search for that date under every year for nearly three centuries. It will be found to be particularly useful for schools, not only in assisting the pupil's memory by the association of events, but also, in furnishing daily subjects for study, discussion and celebration appropriate to the occasion. The list of American Ancestors and their Descendants will be of considerable value to students and inquirers in American Genealogy. It is the largest collection of our American forefathers that has ever been compiled. The collection of "Character Lessons" included in this Conspectus is a systematic presentation of Examples taken from American Biography to illustrate the various traits of Character. It is a course in Character Teaching. Each trait of character is interpreted and elucidated; its Application is made to the Examples selected; reference is made to special poems and selections from general literature, emphasizing the particular trait, and a number of inspiring Excerpts and Quotations upon each subject have been added to be memorized by the pupils. As the great demand today is for the teaching of Character in the public schools, it is believed that this System of Character Teaching by Example herein presented, will be found to be of great value to Public Schools and Educational Institutions, and will provide the best means of satisfying this imperative need.
