Solomon's officers

1 KINGS, IV. B. C. 1014.

Ge.43.30.

23 Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. 24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword 6 were hot. before the king.

25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. 26 Then spake the woman whose

the living child was unto the king, (for her bowels 6 yearned upon her son,) and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in 7 him, to do k judgment. CHAPTER IV.

6 And Ahishar was over the household and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the 4 tribute.

7 And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, which provided victuals for the king and his household each man his month in a year made provision.

20 T Judah and Israel were many, f as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating 9 and drinking, and making merry.

21 And Solomon reigned hover all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, i and served Solomon all the days of his life.

22 And Solomon's 11 provision for one day was thirty 12 measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal,

23 Ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallow deer, and fatted fowl.

24 For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace k on all sides round about him.

25 And Judah and Israel dwelt 13 safely, every man under m his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon.

12 And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom as he promised / him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

13 And king Solomon raised a 6 levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniramm was over the levy.

15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens,n and fourscore thousand hewers o in the mountains;

16 Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

18 And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the 7 stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

4 And for the house he made 2 windows of narrow lights.

5 And 3 against the wall of the house he built 4 chambersb round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the tem-ple and of the oracle: and he made 5 chambers round about.

7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before c it was brought thither; so that there was neither hammer, nor axe, nor any tool of iron heard in the house while it was ins building.

8 The door for the middle cham-9 ber was in the right side of the house and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.

9 So he built the house and finished it; and covered the house 8 with beams and boards of cedar.

10 And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

11 ༄། And the word of the LoRD came to Solomon, saying,

12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if d thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake e unto David thy father:

13 And ƒ I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsakeg my people Israel.

17 And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long. 18 And the cedar of the house within was carved with 10 knops and 11 open flowers; all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

19 And the oracle i he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

20 And the oracle in the fore part was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof; and he overlaid it with 12 pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

21 So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

22 And the whole house he overlaid with gold until he had finished all the house also k the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.

23 And within the oracle he made two cherubims of 13 olive tree, each ten cubits high.

24 And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

25 And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.

26 The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.

27 And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and 14 they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

28 And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.

29 And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and 15 open flowers, within and without.

30 And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

10 And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits.

12 And the great court round about was with three rows of hewed stones, and a row of cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the porch c of the house.

13 T And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram d out of Tyre.

14 He was a widow's son e of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father f was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass and g he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.

36 For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the 12 proportion of every one, and additions round about.

37 After this manner he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size. 38 Then made he ten lavers q of brass: one laver contained forty baths and every laver was four cubits: and upon every one of the ten bases one laver.
