November 5, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Zadock Nichols to convey the mail once a week between West Middlebury and Vernal, 6 miles, at not exceeding $30 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of West Middlebury. Service to commence November 24, 1835; to expire June 30, 1841.

November 17, 1838.-Ordered that an arrangement be made with J. M. Sherwood to convey the mail daily, in 4-horse post coaches, between Syracuse and Auburn, 29 miles, during the months of December, January, February, and March, at $100 per month. Service commenced December 1, 1838; and terminated March 31, 1839.

December 8, 1838.-Ordered that an arrangement be made with Cornelius Warren to convey the mail daily from Warren by Cold Spring to West Point, 5 miles and back, during suspension of steamboat navigation on the Hudson, at 62 cents per day.

December 8, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Anthony Ingles to convey the mail once a week on the route from Clermont, by Elizaville and Jackson Corners, to Montrose, established by the act of 1838, for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon. Service to commence immediately; to expire June 30, 1839.

December 8, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Troy make an arrangement for the conveyance of a daily mail between Troy and Albany, 6 miles during suspension of steamboat navigation, at $1 a trip; under above order, John Barney, carried the mail 53 trips on terms stated.

January 15, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Royal Preston to supply Brookville with the mail once a week from Alexandria, 3 miles, at not exceeding $18 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Brookville. Service to commence February 9, 1839; to expire June 30, 1841.

January 15, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Albert A. Vedder to supply Shingle Creek, with the mail once a week, from Sommerville, 4 miles, at not exceeding $20 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Shingle Creek. Service to commence January 30, 1839; to expire June 30, 1841.

January 22, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with William Cathcart to convey the mail once a week on the route established by the act of 1838, from Darien Centre by Corfu to Pembroke, miles for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. January 22, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Jeremiah Parker to convey the mail once a week on the route established by the act of 1838, from New Haven by Port Ontario, and Lindsayville to Ellisburg, 23 miles, for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service to commence immediately; to expire June 30, 1839.

January 22, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Isaac Plumb to convey the mail 6 times a week from Ogdensburgh, N. Y., to Prescott, Upper Canada, 2 miles, at $50 per annum. Service to commence June 26, 1838; to expire June 30, 1841.

February 9, 1839.-Ordered that an arrangement be made with Peter Decker to convey the mail 6 times a week between Saugerties and Malden, 2 miles, during the steamboat season of 1839. Under above order a contract was made with said Decker at $40 per season. Service to commence April 26, 1838; to expire at the close of steamboat navigation same year.

March 14, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Henry Davis to supply Sterlingville with the mail 3 times a week from Philadelphia, 4 miles, at not exceeding $60 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Sterlingville. Contract not executed.

March 18, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Buffalo send mails by steamboat to Huron, O., at the compensation authorized by the 5th section of the act of 1825, viz: 3 cents for each letter and cent for each newspaper.

March 22, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Henry J. Krum to supply Harlaemville with the mail once a week from Mellenville, 6 miles, at not exceeding $30 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Harlaemville. Service to commence April 1, 1839; to expire June 30, 1841.

April 15, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with John Van Ness to supply Vischer's Ferry with the mail once a week from Rexford Flats, 6 miles, at not exceeding $36 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Vischer's Ferry. Service commenced April 13, 1837; to expire June 30, 1841.

April 22, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Coxsackie engage a car· rier to convey the mail daily between his office and the steamboat landing, at not exceeding $50 per annum.

April 22, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Palestine employ Stoats Fox to supply his office daily from the Albany and Utica railroad, at not exceeding $64 per annum.

July 6, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Thomas L. Bane to supply Lowellville, O., from Youngstown, once a week, 7 miles, at not exceeding the net proceeds of Lowelville, and not exceeding $40 per annum. Service commenced September 12, 1838; to expire December 31, 1839.

July 6, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with J. H. Shaeffer to supply Wiconisco, Pa., from Millersburg, 15 miles, twice a week, at not exceeding $150 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Wiconisco. Service commenced January 1, 1839; to expire December 31, 1839.

July 6, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with G. W. Poinsett, at the rate of $100 per annum, for carrying the mail 3 times a week between Mount Holly and Pemberton, N. J., a distance of 6 miles, from June 9, 1838, to January 1, 1839.

July 25, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Wheeling, Va., engage the conveyance of the mail by steamboats to Cincinnati, O., whenever the state of the roads through Ohio shall require it, and the stage of water in the river is such as to make boat conveyance the most expeditious. This is to be practised in the spring and fall season, and the compensation is not to exceed $10 per trip.

August 11, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Newell, Pa., engage the conveyance of the mail 6 times a week between his office and the railroad depot, at not exceeding $50 per annum. Under the above order, the postmaster at Newell engaged Robert McLaughlin at $50 per annum: service commenced August 20, 1838; to expire December 31, 1839.

August 11, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at West Hill, Pa., engage service between his office and Carlisle, 5 miles, twice a week, at not exceeding $30 per annum. Under the above order, the postmaster at West Hill engaged James A. Gallagher at $30 per annum: service commenced October 26, 1838; to expire December 31, 1839.

August 11, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Joseph N. Froth to convey the mail twice daily between the railroad depot and Staunton, Del., and daily between Staunton and Christiana, at $175 per annum from June 21, 1838, to December 31, 1839-under authority given the postmaster at Staunton on 16th June, 1838, to make such an arrangement.

September 20, 1838.-Ordered that the arrangement made by the postmaster at Bordentown, N. J., with W. W. Mershan to carry the mail between his office and the steamboat, at $1 50 per month, be sanctioned.

September 21, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with William Dillon for the supply of Hicksville, from Cranesville, O., 8 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $40 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Hicksville. Service commenced November 23, 1838: to expire December 31, 1839.

October 10, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Michael Keefer for the supply of Orleans, Md., from Mountain House, 12 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $60 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Orleans. Service commenced October 21, 1838: to expire December 31, 1839.

October 26, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Israel Stoddart to convey the mail once a week on the route established by the act

of 1838, from Defiance, O., to Lima, Ia., for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service commenced December 19, 1838; to expire June 30, 1839.

November 5, 1838.-Ordered that the arrangement made by the postmaster at Marietta, Pa. (under order of 16th June, 1838), with G. H. Horning to carry the mail on route No. 1048, from Columbia to Middletown, 21 miles, daily to Marietta, and 3 times a week the residue, at the rate of $500 per annum, from June 25, 1838, to October 1, 1838, be recognised.

November 16, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Wm. Humber to carry the mail on route No. 1480, Williamsburg to Fayetteville, 14 miles, once a week, at $52 per annum: from January 1, 1839, to December 31, 1839.

November 16, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Joseph Walker to carry the mail 3 times a week from Nesquehoning to Mauch Chunk, Pa., for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service commenced January 2, 1839; to expire June 30, 1839.

November 16, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Caleb Earl to convey the mail on the route established by the act of 1838, from Burnett's Corners, O., to Auburn, via Chagrin Fall and Bainbridge, twice a week between Burnett's Corners and Chagrin Falls, and once a week the residue, for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service to commence immediately; to expire June 30, 1839.

December 10, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with A. G. Doremus for the supply of Fort Lee, N. J., from Hackensack, 5 miles, twice a week, at not exceeding net proceeds of Fort Lee, and not exceeding $50 Contract not executed.

December 10, 1838.-Ordered that the arrangement made by the postmaster at Trenton, N. J., with Daniel Hutchinson, for carrying the mail between his office and the railroad depot, daily, and for a morning mail between his office and Morristown, from October 30, 1838, at $1 per day, be recognised.

December 14, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with W. R. Smith to carry the mail once a week, on route established by act of 1838, from Springfield, O., by Clarksburg and Northampton, to New Carlisle, for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service to commence immediately; to expire June 30, 1839.

January 25, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with O. W. Delana to carry the mail once a week, on the route established by the act of 1838, from Unionville to Ellinsburg, for net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service commenced February 23, 1839; to expire June 30, 1839.

January 25, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with J. Millen to carry the mail between Wilkins, O., and Richwood, 6 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $35 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Wilkins. Service commenced February 9, 1839; to expire December 31, 1839.

February 8, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with A. P. Moderwell to carry the mail on the route, established by the act of 1838, from Shippensville, Pennsylvania, to Tionesta, once a week, for the net proceeds of the offices to be established on the route, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service to commence immediately; to expire June 30, 1839.

February S, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Hebron engage service between his office and Lockburn, Ohio, 36 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $180 per annum. Under the above order, the postmaster at Hebron engaged Daniel Coffman, at $180 per annum. Service commenced March 27, 1839; to expire December 31, 1839.

February 23, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at New Lexington, O., engage service between his office and Milfield once a week, at $7 per mile per annum, and report distance, name, &c. Under the above order, the postmaster at New Lexington reports distance to be 26 miles, and that he had engaged Alexander Brown, at $182 per annum. Service commenced June 3, 1839; to expire December 31, 1839.

March 16, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Henry Greene to carry the mail once a week between Ottowa, O., and Clay, 12 miles, at not exceeding $72 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Ottowa. Contract not executed.
