March 16, 1839.-Ordered that the arrangement made by the postmaster at Brooklandville, Md., under order of April 3, 1838, with John Lorman to convey the mail three times a week between his office and Baltimore, 9 miles, at $45 per annum, be sanctioned. Service commenced September 1, 1838; to expire December 31, 1839.

March 25, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Vanwert, O., engage service between his office and Shane's Crossings, once a week, at $75 per Name of contractor not reported.

March 29, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with James A. Watrons to carry the mail, once a week, between Green Spring, O., and Green Creek, 6 miles, at not exceeding $36 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Green Spring. Service commenced April 3, 1839; to expire June 30, 1841.

April 12, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Charlestown, Md., engage service, 3 times a week, between his office and the railroad,mile, at not exceeding $48 per annum. Under the above order, the postmaster at Charlestown engaged C. G. Black, at $48 per annum. Service commenced April 1, 1839; to expire December 31, 1839.

April 26, 1839.-Ordered that a temporary contract be made with the Monroeville Railroad Company to carry the mail daily from Monroeville to Sandusky, and back, at $400 per annum, from May 15, 1839, to December 31, 1839.

May 10, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Elijah Bennett to carry the mail once a week between Elmira, O., and York Centre, 15 miles, at not exceeding $90 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Elmira. Contract not executed.

July 2, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Reidsville, Ga., engage a contractor to carry the mail between his office and Perry's Mills, once a week, at not exceeding $8 per mile per annum; on 18 miles $144 per annum. Under the above order, the postmaster at Reidsville engaged Benjamin W. Guner, at $136 per annum: from November 17, 1838, to June 30, 1939.

July 14, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Lanier, Ga., engage a contractor to carry the mail once a week between his office and Marshall

ville, 6 miles, at not exceeding $48 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Lanier. Contract not executed.

July 14, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Hinesville, Ga., engage a contractor to supply his office once a week with the mail from Riceboro', 14 miles, at not exceeding $112 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Hinesville. Under the above order, the postmaster at Hinesville engaged Chatham Hines, at $56 per annum for once a week supply from Walthamsville, 17 miles, instead of Riceboro': from January 1, 1839, to December 31, 1839.

July 14, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Faulkland, N. C., engage a contractor to supply his office once a week from Greenville, 8 miles, at not exceeding $54 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Faulkland. Contract not executed.

September 10, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Jones & Lebrell to carry the mail twice a week, between Hicksford, N. C., and Newson's depot, 30 miles, at $378 70 per annum. Service commenced September, 16, 1838; to expire December 31, 1838.

September 29, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Samuel Creminger to carry the mail, once a week, between New Potosi and Pleasant Hill, 8 miles, at not exceeding $64 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of New Potosi. Service to commence November 1, 1838; to expire December 31, 1838.

September, 29, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Wm. Cassell to carry the mail once a week, between Attapulgus, Ga., and Bainbridge, 12 miles, at not exceeding $100 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Attapulgus. Contract not executed.

October 27, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Thomas Barbour to carry the mail once a week, between Tobacco Row, Va., and Lynchburg, 10 miles, at not exceeding $80 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Tobacco Row.

December 12, 1838.-Ordered that A. Carmichael, contractor on No. 2154, Morgantown to Ashville, 59 miles, twice a week in stages, at $1,180 per annum, extend service on said route to the 30th June, 1839, on same terms. The contract of A. Carmichael for above route expiring on 31st December, 1838.

December 15, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Frederickshall, Va., engage service once a week from Frederickshall to Frederickshall, via Mansfield, Harris, Pattiesville, and Tolersville, at not exceeding $256 per annum for one year, from 1st January, 1839.

December 29, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Crocker's Neck engage a contractor to convey the mail once a week between his office and Greensboro', Ga., 10 miles, at not exceeding net proceeds of Crocker's Neck, and not exceeding $80 per annum: service commenced July 20, 1837; to expire December 31, 1838.

January 17, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Thos. R. Piers to carry the mail once a week from Concord, Va., to Farmville, 52 miles, at $250 per trip, until the 1st July, 1839.

January 17, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Halifax, N. C., engage a carrier to convey the mail, between his office and the railroad, daily, on the lowest terms practicable, and to report the name of the person engaged, and the terms, to the department.

January 18, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Teaze's Valley, Va., engage a carrier to convey the mail twice a week, between his office and Longlevel, 5 miles, at not exceeding $40 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Teaze's Valley, till 30th June, 1843. Contract made with A. W. Handly on above terms.

January 18, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Benjamin Swain to convey the mail once a week between Nixon's, N. C., and Ashborough, 9 miles, at not exceeding $20 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of office at Nixon's. Service to commence May 23, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

February 2, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Providence, Va., engage a once-a-week supply to his office and Whitesville, from Mount Laurel, at not exceeding $8 per mile per annum. Contract not reported.

February 2, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Back Creek Valley, Va., engage contractor to convey the mail once a week between his office and Greensborough, 5 miles, at not exceeding $40 per annum.

February 2, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Parham's store, Va., engage a carrier to convey the mail between his office and Stony Creek, 7 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $42 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Parham's store. On the 26th March, 1839, postmaster at Parham's store authorized to obtain twice-a-week supply, at not exceeding net proceeds of Parham's store, and not exceeding $70 per annum. May, 11, 1839, contract ordered with Jesse Horne for twice a week service, at not exceeding net proceeds of Parham's store, and not exceeding $60 per annum till 30th June, 1843.

February 2, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Healy's store engage a carrier to convey the mail once a week between Healy's and Sandy Bottom, 9 miles, at not exceeding $72 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Sandy Bottom. Under above authority, the postmaster engaged Carter Perkins at $26 per annum. Not to exceed net proceeds of Sandy Bottom till 30th June, 1843.

February 15, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Mayfield, Va., engage a carrier to convey the mail once a week between his office and Smithfield, 14 miles, at the rate of $40 per annum until 30th June, 1839. Contract ordered with Shadrack Barlow, under above authority, at the rate of $40 per annum from 23d January, 1839, to 30th June, 1839.

February 16, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Gregory Mathews to carry the mail twice a week from Scottsville, Va., to Smithville, 34 miles, at not exceeding $96 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Smithville. Service to commence March 6, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

February 16, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Raytown, Ga., engage a carrier to convey the mail once a week between Crawfordsville and Raytown, $ miles, at not exceeding $80 per annum.

February 16, 1839.-Ordered that the temporary arrangement between George Hill, agent of the department, and the president of the Charleston railroad company, to convey the mail daily (No. 2214) Hamburg to Charleston, 136 miles, in railroad cars, at $200 per mile per annum, to continue until 30th June, 1839, be approved.

February 16, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Stephen Martin to convey the mail once a week on the route established by the act of 1838 from Chamblissburg, Va., to Big Lick, for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. To continue until 30th June, 1839.

February 26, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at New Potosi engage a contractor to convey the mail between his office and Pleasant Hill, S miles, once a week, at not exceeding net proceeds of New Potosi, and not exceeding $64 per annum, until 30th June, 1843,

March 6, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Winton, N. C., engage a carrier to convey the mail 3 times a week between his office and the steamboat landing, at not exceeding $50 per annum.

March 14, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Calvin Shepperd to carry the mail 3 times a week between Point Pleasant, Va., and Gallipolis, O., at not exceeding $99 60 per annum, from 14th February, 1839, to 31st December, 1839.

March 26, 1839.-Ordered that James C. Mitchell, contractor on route No. 2420, Elijah to Dahlonega, 35 miles, once a week, at $200 per annum, continue service to 30th June, 1839, at same rate of compensation.

March 26, 1839.-Ordered to make a contract with Jacob Agee to carry the mail once a week between Gravel Hill, Va., and Cumberland courthouse, 11 miles, at not exceeding $88 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Gravel Hill.

March 26, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with William Gallaghy to carry the mail once a week between Liberty Hall and Rogersville S. C., 8 miles, at not exceeding $64 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Liberty Hall. Service to commence March 26, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

March 26, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Yellow River, Ga., engage a carrier to convey the mail once a week between Yellow River and

Lawrenceville, 8 miles, at not exceeding $64 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Yellow River. Contract not executed.

March 26, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Chapel Hill, Ga., engage a carrier to convey the mail once a week between Chapel Hill and Macon, 11 miles, at not exceeding $88 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Chapel Hill. Contract not executed.

March 26, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Miles Moore to convey the mail once a week between Shell Creek, Ga., and Columbus, 20 miles, at not exceeding $160 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Shell Creek. Contract not executed.

March 29, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Noland's Ferry, Va., engage a carrier to convey the mail once a week between his office and Leesburg, at not exceeding $40 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Noland's Ferry. Under above authority, the postmaster engaged Charles Williams, at $40 per annum, limited to net proceeds of Noland's Ferry till 31st December, 1839.

April 5, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Uchee Valley, Flo., engage a carrier to convey the mail once in two weeks between Uchee Valley and Almaranto (No. 2472), a distance of 70 miles, at not exceeding $200 per annum. Under above authority, the postmaster at Uchee Valley engaged Peter K. McDonald, at $190 per annum. Service commenced May 9, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

April 8, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Bunker Hill, Flo., engage a contractor to convey the mail once a week between his office Bailey's Mills, via Mackasukee, 15 miles, at not exceeding $10 per mile and per annum.

April 8, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with T. J. Terrell, to convey the mail once a week between Adamsville, Ga., and Pine Log, 11 miles, at not exceeding net proceeds of Adamsville, and not exceeding $88 per annum. Service to commence June 2, 1839; to expire June 30,

1843.

April 16, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with Henry Still, to convey the mail once a week between Palestine, and Blue Sulphur Springs, S miles, at not exceeding $68 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Palestine. Service commenced May 4, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

April 16, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with Bufort Keitly, at not exceeding $80 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Bowlesville, Va., for conveying the mail once a week between Bowlesville and Columbia, 10 miles. Service to commence May 15, 1839; to expire June 30,

1843.

Dashiell, to convey the mail once a week from Chuckatuck, to Barber's Cross-roads, Va, 7 miles, at not exceeding $56 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Barber's Cross-roads.
