April 16, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with Jeremiah Williams, to carry the mail once a week between Salubrity, S. C., and Double Branches, 5 miles, at not exceeding $40 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Salubrity. Service to commence May 1, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

April 18, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with W. A. Adams, to carry the mail once a week between Rehoboth, Ga., and Salem, via Good Hope, 17 miles, at not exceeding $136 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Rehoboth and Good Hope. Contract not executed.

April 22, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Hickford, N. C., engage a carrier to convey the mail daily between his office and railroad depot, at not exceeding $36 per annum.

April 22, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Hamburgh, S. C., engage a carrier to supply his office with a daily mail, at not exceeding $273 per annum, till December 31, 1839.

April 24, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Frederica, Ga., engage a carrier to supply his office once a week with a mail from Darien, 14 miles, at not exceeding net proceeds of Frederica, and not exceeding $140 per annum, till December 31, 1839.

April 24, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with James Jones, to carry the mail once a week between Port Conway, Va., and Port Royal, mile, at not exceeding net proceeds of Port Royal, and not exceeding $40 per annum. Service commenced January 1, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

May 4, 1839.-Ordered that the arrangement made by the postmaster at Clinton, Ga., with Stephen Clawer, to have the mail carried 3 times a week between his office and Macon, 14 miles, at the rate of $600 per annum, be approved, and that he continue to have the mail so carried until a permanent arrangement shall be made by the department.

May 4, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with H. J. Harvey, to carry the mail twice a day between Halifax, N. C., and the railroad depot, at $150 per annum.

May 4, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Whitaker & Batchelor, to convey the mail twice a day between Enfield, N. C., and the railroad depot, at not exceeding $125 per annum.

May 8, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Pleasant District, N. C., apply all the proceeds of his office in procuring a supply as often as practicable until July 1, 1839.

May 8, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Pine Log, Georgia, engage a carrier, to supply his office once a week, from Cassville, at not exceeding $96 per annum, and limited to net proceeds of Pine Log. Contract not executed.

May 8, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Ottobine, Va., engage a carrier to convey the mail once a week between his office and Mount Solon, at not exceeding $8 per mile per annum, from July 1, 1839.

May 11, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with William Outlaw, to carry the mail daily between Smithville, N. C., and steamboat landing, at not exceeding $60 per annum.

May 11, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with George Sennett, to carry the mail once a week between Solus, Va., and Pennsborough, 8 miles, at not exceeding $25 90, and not exceeding net proceeds of Solus. Contract not executed.

May 14, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with James A. Tyler, to carry the mail once a week on route 1820a, from Junction, Va., to Verdan, 4 miles, at $15 per annum. Service to commence June 14, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

June 8, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Marengo, Ga., engage a contractor to convey the mail once a week between Marengo and St. Clair, at not exceeding $52 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Marengo. Contract not executed.

June 14, 1839.-Ordered that the postmasters at New York, N. Y., and St. Mark's, Florida, be authorized to send letters by the New York and Key West packets, and pay 3 cents on each letter so sent, and cent on each newspaper.

June 15, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with Augustus F. Montague, for supply of Sandy Bottom and Freeshade, from Urbanna, Alabama, 19 miles, once a week, at not exceeding net proceeds of Freeshade and Sandy Bottom, and not exceeding $150 per annum.

July 9, 1839.-Montague refusing to execute, ordered to make contract on same terms with Richard H. Crittenden, from July 18, 1839, to June, 1843.

June 15, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with Joshua Kirkland, for carrying the mail once a week between May River and Grahamsville, 22 miles, at not exceeding net proceeds of May River, and not exceeding $220 per annum. Contract not executed.

June 15, 1839.-Ordered to make contract with John Brantley, to carry the mail once a week, between Little River and Smithville, via Shallotte, 50 miles, at $500 per annum.

June 18, 1839.-Ordered that the postmaster at Tarboro', N. C., engage a contractor to carry the mail once a week from Tarboro', by Pitts Crossroads, Oak Grove, and Stantonsburg, to Waynesboro', 46 miles, at $460 per annum. Under above order contract was made with George Howard, on terms stated. Service to commence July 5, 1839; to expire June 30, 1843.

June 19, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with John Roberts, to carry the mail twice a week between Enfield, Va., and Aylett's, 10 miles, at not exceeding net proceeds of Aylett's, and not exceeding $140 Contract not executed.

July 5, 1838.— Ordered that a contract be made with Samuel B. Dehart, to carry the mail once a week between Barney's Bayou and Randolph, 10 miles, at $140 per annum. Service commenced July 1, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

July 18, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Stephen O. Jameson to carry the mail once a week between War Traceville, Ten., and Millersburg, 5 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $35 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of War Traceville. Contract not executed.

July 18, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Samuel Berryhill, to carry the mail once a week between Bellefontaine, Miss., and Greensboro', 12 miles at not exceeding $108 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Bellefontaine. Contract not executed.

July 18, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with William Stoker to carry the mail once a week between Martin's Creek, Ten., and Sandy Bridge, 6 miles, at not exceeding net proceeds of Martin's Creek, and not exceeding $42 per annum. Service commenced August 25, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

July 25, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Helena, Ark., engage service once a week between his office and Rock Roe, 75 miles, at not exceeding $12 per mile per annum. Under the above order the postmaster at Helena engaged John J. Bowie, at $900 per annum. menced August 26, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

August 1, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with John Byron to carry the mail once a week between Midway, Ala., and Aberfoil, 12 miles, at not exceeding $120 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Aberfoil. January 5, 1839, Byron having refused to execute the contract, Arthur Stripling was accepted on the same terms. Service commenced March 23, 1839; to expire June 30, 1842.

August 7, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Socopatoy, Ala., engage service between his office and Rockford, 15 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $78 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Socopatoy. Under the above order the postmaster at Socopatoy engaged John A. Chapman on said terms. Contract not executed.

August 7, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Brickville, Ala., engage service between his office and Leighton, 8 miles, once a week, at not exceeding $52 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Brickville. Under the above authority the postmaster at Brickville engaged Joel Denton at the price before stated. Service commenced June 30, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

August 14, 1838.-Ordered that the postmaster at Leighton, Ala., engage service between his office and La Grange twice a week, 5 miles, at not exceeding $120 per annum. Under the above order postmaster at Leighton engaged R. P. Denton at $120 per annum. Service commenced October 1, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

August 21, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Augustus Madeira to carry the mail once a week between Union C. H., Ark., and Ecore à Fabre, 40 miles, at $399 per annum. Service commenced June 19, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

August 21, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with William Haven to carry the mail once a week between Caseyville, Ky., and Morganfield, 15 miles, at not exceeding $90 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Caseyville till June 30, 1842.

August 28, 1838.—Ordered that a contract be made with Robert G. Cox to carry the mail once a week between Brownsville, Ala., and Elyton, 6 miles, at not exceeding $60 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Brownsville, till June 30, 1842.

August 28, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with James Young to carry the mail once a week between Youngsville and Montreal, 13 miles, at not exceeding $54 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Youngsville. Service commenced July 7, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

October 30, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with G. D. Brooks to carry the mail twice a week, in stages, on the route established by the act of 1838, from Carrollton, Miss., to Douglass, 18 miles, for the net proceeds of the offices to be established thereon, agreeably to the provisions of said act. Service to expire June 30, 1839.

November 19, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with W. L. Caseen to carry the mail once a week between Bayou Rouge Prairie and Bayou Rouge, 10 miles, at not exceeding $100 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Bayou Rouge Prairie. Contract ordered to be made with W. V. Gober on the same terms, Caseen having failed to execute. Service to expire June 30, 1842.

February 7, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with A. Price to carry the mail once a week between Miltonville, Miss., and Quitman, 18 miles, at not exceeding $180 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Miltonville, till June 30, 1842.

March 14, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with G. W. Thompson to carry the mail once a week between Fort Decatur and Cabahatchie, Ala., 9 miles, at not exceeding $99 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Fort Decatur. Service commenced March 4, 1839; to expire June 30, 1842.

April 11, 1839.-Contract ordered to be made with Ezekiel Brashears to carry the mail once in two weeks on No. 3265 from Perry C. H., Ky.,

to Leatherwoods, 19 miles, at $76 per annum, from May 1, 1839, to June 30, 1842.

April 12, 1839.-Contract ordered to be made with Andrew Waldrip to carry the mail once a week between Eaton, Miss., and Wyatt's, 15 miles, at not exceeding $150 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Eaton. Contract not executed.

April 12, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with John G. Chiles to carry the mail 3 times a week, in 4 horse post-coaches, from Burnt Tavern, Ky., to Danville, 8 miles, at $466 per annum. Service commenced April 12, 1839; to expire June 30, 1842.

May 16, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Isaac Curtis to carry the mail once a week between Spring Hill, La., and Cheneyville, 15 miles, at not exceeding $186 per annum, and not exceeding net proceeds of Spring Hill. Contract not executed.

June 6, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with Allen & Kitchen to carry the mail 3 times a week, in hacks, between Montgomery, Ala., and Haynesville, 24 miles, at $1,200 per annum. Service commenced July 1, 1839; to expire June 30, 1842.

June 20, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with John R. Jefferson to carry the mail 3 times a week, in 4-horse post-coaches, from Jackson, Miss., to Lexington, 67 miles, at the rate of $2,000 per annum, from July 1, 1839, to December 31, 1839.

June 26, 1839.-Ordered that a contract be made with John Hays to carry the mail between Cypress Inn, Ala., and Young's Cross roads, 9 miles, at not exceeding $63 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Cypress Inn, till June 30, 1842.

July 6, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Owen L. Turner to supply Lyndon, Ill., with the mail once a week from Rock River Rapids, 14 miles, at not exceeding $100 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Lyndon. Service to commence July 23, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

July 6, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with John Morgan to supply Eminence, Ill., with the mail once a week from Waynesville, 12 miles, at not exceeding $100 per annum, and not exceeding the net proceeds of Eminence. Service to commence August 13, 1838; to expire June 30, 1842.

July 12, 1838.-Ordered that a contract be made with Joseph S. Collins to supply Otisco, Mich., with the mail twice a week from Ionia, 12 miles,
