JOINT RESOLUTION asking Congress for an appropriation to defray the expenses of taking the census of the inhabitants of Wisconsin Territory, and for the holding of a convention to form a State constitution.

Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin.

That our delegate in Congress be requested to urge upon that body, the passage of a law making an appropriaton to defray the expenses of taking a census of the inhabitants of the Territory preparatory to the formation of a State government, and also to make an appropriation to provide for the expenses of holding a convention to form a constitution and state government.

JOINT RESOLUTION relative to the Distribution of the balance of the Distributive Share of Wisconsin in the nett proceeds of the Public Lands. Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That Joshua Hathaway, special agent of the Territory of Wisconsin, to receive and disburse the distributive share of Wisconsin in the nett proceeds of the public lands, be, and he hereby is directed to apply the balance of said fund to the payment of the interest which shall be due and unpaid on any bonds which may be presented to him, now unredeemed that were issued to Daniel Baxter for the completion of the capitol.

Resolved. That said special agent, so soon as he shall have disbursed said fund, shall make a final report to the legislative assembly of his proceedings as such agent, and transmit all vouchers, or other papers connected with his said agency, to the legis lative assembly.

RESOLUTION of the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Wisconsin, asking Congress for an appropriation for the construction of a harbor at the mouth of Sheboygan river.

Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the interests of a large and interesting portion of the Territory, extending westerly from Sheboygan on Lake Michigan to Lake Winnebago and the Fox river,and thence Westwardly to the Wisconsin river as well as the safety of navigation upon Lake Michigan, imperiously demand the early construction of a harbor at the mouth of the Sheboygan river.

Resolved, That the Hon. Henry Dodge, the delegate from this Territory, be respectfully requested to urge upon Congress, the passage of a law at its present session, making an appropria tion for that object.

Resolved, That His Excellency the Governor, be requested to transmit a certified copy of the foregoing resolution to the presiding officers of both houses of Congress and to the honorable Delegate.

RESOLUTION recommending the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, to allow William B. Slaughter a certain credit.

Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That in the opinion of this Legislative Assembly, William B. Slaughter late Secretary of this Territory, did in the month of September 1840, negociate or deposit with Samuel B. Knapp, cashier of the bank of Mineral Point, a draft of ten thousand dollars, issued to him by the Treasury Department of the United States on the 10th of August 1840; that he made said negociation or deposite acting as Secretary aforesaid and in good faith, believing it to be for the best interests of the United States and of this Territory, and in the opinion of said Assembly, said William B. Slaughter should be credited at the Treasury Department of the United States for said ten thousand dollars, deducting therefrom the amount of any vouchers turned over to the said Slaughter by the said Knapp, for which the said Slaughter has received or should receive a credit at said Treasury Department. APPROVED February 22nd, 1845.

RESOLUTION concerning a Light House at Sauk Harbor.

Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of Wisconsin Territory:

That the Hon. Delegate of this Territory to Congress, be requested to urge upon Congress, the necessity of making an appropriation for the purpose of placing a revolving light at Sauk Harbor within this Territory.

RESOLUTION to declare the name of the Territory, "Wisconsin."

Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the orthography of the name of "Wisconsin,” shall be the same as is herein used, and as was used by Congress in "an act establishing the Territorial government of Wisconsin," approved 20th April, 1836.

APPROVED January 30th, 1845.

RESOLUTIONS providing means for the payment of the debts of the Territory.

Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the Hon. Henry Dodge, delegate in Congress, be and he hereby is requested to urge the insertion of a provision in the bill appropriating funds to defray the expenses of the Legislative Assembly at its session of 1846, authorizing the application of any unexpended balance which may remain at the close of said session to the liquidation of the debts of this Territory.

Resolved, That his Excellency the Governor, be requested to transmit a certified copy of these resolutions to our delegate in Congress.

RESOLUTIONS relative to the extinguishment of the Indian title to the lands north of the Fox River.

Resolved by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the rapidity of settlement of the lands bordering on, and lying south of the Fox river, as well as the importance of the section of country lying north of the same, demands the early extinguishment of the Indian title to all the lands along said river. : Resolved, That the Honorable Henry Dodge, delegate in Congress, be hereby requested to urge upon Congress, the necessity of making an appropriation at the present session for the purpose of holding a treaty with the Menomonee tribe of Indians, for the extinguishment of the Indian title to the lands lying north of the Fox river, in said Territory, and between the Wolf and Wisconsin rivers.

Resolved, That his Excellency the Governor, be requested to forward copies of these resolutions to the presiding officers of both houses of Congress and to the Hon. delegate of the Territory.
