The borders surrounding each page are in imitation of celebrated missals of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, including wood engravings of Albert Diirer's " Life of Christ," Holbein's " Dance of Death," with Scriptural Quotations and Proverbs in the margin ; also quaint woodcut borders of fruit and flowers, and full length Portrait of Queen Elizabeth kneeling at prayer.
