A Prayer for the whole fate of
Christ's church militant bere in earth,
LMIGHTY and everliving
Apostle haft taught us to make fupplications, and to give thanks for all men; We humbly beseech thee moft mercifully to receive these our prayers which we offer unto thy divine Majesty, beseeching thee to inspire continually the universal church with the spirit of truth, unity and concord; and grant that all they that do confess thy holy name, may agree in the truth of thy holy word, and live in unity and godly love. We beseech thee also to preserve and defend all Christian kings, princes, and governors, especially thy servant George our king, that under E 3
him we may be peaceably governed. And grant unto his whole council and to all that are put in authority under him, that they may truly and impartially adminifter justice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice and the maintenance of thy true religion and virtue. Give grace, O heavenly Father, to all ministers of the gospel of thy Son, that they may both by their life and doctrine set forth thy true and lively word. And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace, and especially to this congregation here present, that with meek heart and due reverence they may hear and receive thy holy word, truly serving thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life. And we most humbly beseech thee, of thy goodness, o
Lord, Lord, to comfort and succour all those who in this transitory life, are in trouble, forrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. And we also bless thy name for all thy servants departed this life in thy holy fear; beseeching thee to give us grace so to follow their good examples, that with them we may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom. In these our requests, we beseech thee, O God, to hear and to accept us as the true disciples of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A general Thanksgiving.
of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants, do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving
kindness to us and to all men;
• This is to be (*particularly to those faid, when any who defire now to offer to return praises thanksgivings for thy prayed for, delive up their praises and late mercies vouchsafed unto them.) We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Chrift; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we may shew forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righte
ousness all our days, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A concluding Prayer.
LMIGHTY God, who haft
given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee; and haft promised by thy beloved Son, that where two or three are gathered together in his name, thou wilt grant their requests; fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world the knowledge of thy truth; and, in the world to come, life everlasting. Amen.
