Excerpt from Health

Having been requested by the Publishers to write a small work on the subject of Health, which might be useful to the elder scholars in schools and to the public generally, I have done so in the hope that it may supply a want of prime magnitude. The limited size of the work, as well as the somewhat youthful persons to whom it is chiefly addressed, have rendered it as difficult as necessary to make a selection of materials, and to use very plain and simple language. I h0pe the subjects introduced will be deemed worthy of careful consideration, and that the familiar style of writing will not be unacceptable to any class of readers. Should any portion, as for example the chapter on atmospheric conditions, be found too far advanced for the attainments of young persons, the reading of it may be deferred for a time but it is hoped that none is beyond the comprehension of adults in the masses of the people. Should it be found to be a useful addition to a higher class school series, I shall hope that the instruction may not be limited to this generation, but will be handed down to the children of the neitt.
