EXTRACTS.

At the Yearly Meeting of Friends, held in Philadelphia, by adjournments from the 15th day of Fifth Month, to the 19th of the same, inclusive, 1876.

From the reports received from all our constituent branches, it appears that one hundred and thirty-five Friends have been appointed Representatives to attend the service of this Meeting, who, on being called, were all present except sixteen. For the absence of four of them reasons were assigned.

Minutes of Friends in attendance with us from other Yearly Meetings were presented and read, as follows:

For Samuel M. Janney, a Minister, from Goose Creek Monthly Meeting, Virginia, held the 13th of last month For John Needles, a Minister, from Baltimore Monthly Meeting, held the 4th of this month.

For Bernard Taylor, an Elder, from Goose Creek Monthly Meeting, Virginia, held the 13th of last month.

For John D. Phillips and Ann, his wife, members in unity, from Yonge Street Monthly Meeting, Ontario, held the 13th of last month.

For B. Ellis Dungan and Sarah S., his wife, members in unity, from Concord Monthly Meeting, Ohio, held the 19th of last month.

Epistles from our brethren of the Yearly Meetings of New York, Baltimore, Ohio, Indiana, Genesee, and Illinois, were received and read to our satisfaction and comfort. To respond to these acceptable evidences of christian fellowship as way may open, a Committee was appointed.

Minutes introduced from Women's Meeting, for Women Friends in attendance, were produced and read, as follows:

For Wealthy A. Russell, a Minister, from De Ruyter Monthly Meeting, New York, held the 26th of last month.

For Martha H. Ferris, a member in unity, from East Hamburg Monthly Meeting, New York, held the 27th of last month.

For Mary E. Stevens, a member in unity, from Yonge Street Monthly Meeting, Ontario, held the 8th of this month.

The Representatives are desired to confer together and propose to our next sitting a Friend to serve the Meeting as Clerk, and one for Assistant Clerk. Also, the name of a Friend from each of the Quarterly Meetings to aid the Committee appointed by Philadelphia Monthly Meeting in preserving order in and about the Meeting House, during the sittings of the Yearly Meeting.

Second Day Afternoon.

Charles Stokes, on behalf of the Representatives, reported that they conferred together at the rise of the

morning session, and were united in proposing Benjamin G. Foulke for Clerk, and Daniel Foulke for Assistant Clerk, for the present year. On consideration thereof by the Meeting, they were united with, and accordingly appointed.

They also reported the names of a Committee to aid in keeping order in and about the Meeting House, during the sittings of the Yearly Meeting.

The Representatives also introduced the following proposition:

"They were united in proposing to the Yearly Meeting for its consideration, the appointment of a Committee to unite with a Committee of Women Friends, (should they appoint), who shall consider the propriety of a change in the hours of the gathering and the adjournments of the Yearly Meeting;" which being considered by the Meeting it was concluded to appoint a Committee, to unite with a Committee of Women Friends in the consideration of the subject, and report thereon to a future sitting.

A proposition from Haddonfield Quarterly Meeting, in relation to an alteration of the discipline, contained in their report, was read and referred to a Committee, to unite with a Committee of Women Friends in the consideration thereof, and report to a future sitting.

To examine and settle the Treasurer's accounts, report the sum necessary to be raised the ensuing year, and to bring forward the name of a Friend to serve as Treasurer, a Committee was appointed. The Committee are also desired to bring forward the names of two Friends to serve as Correspondents of the Yearly Meeting.

The names of Friends appointed as Representatives to this Meeting, who were absent at the morning session were again called, and two of them now responded.

Sixteenth of the Month and Third of the Week. The Committee appointed at last sitting to consider the subject of a change in the time of the gathering of our Yearly Meeting, made the following report:

"The Committee to whom was referred the subject of changing the hour for gathering and closing the sessions of our Yearly Meeting nearly all met, and after deliberation were united in proposing that the morning sessions shall commence at 10 o'clock, and the afternoon sessions at 3 o'clock, and it was the judgment of the Committee that the length of each session should not much exceed two hours." Upon consideration, the Report of the Committee was united with by the Meeting, and information being received from Women's Meeting that they also had united with the Report, it is therefore adopted.

The First Query was read, with the replies thereto contained in the Reports, and a summary answer adopted. The Meeting was engaged in consideration of the important subjects embraced in this Query.

Third Day Afternoon.

The Meeting was engaged during this sitting in the consideration of the Second and Third Queries, and the answers thereto from the subordinate Meetings. Summary answers were adopted.

Seventeenth of the Month and Fourth of the Week.

The Fourth and Fifth Queries were read and the replies thereto contained in the Reports were deliberately considered, and summary answers adopted.

Fourth Day Afternoon.

The Sixth Query was read, and the interesting subjects embraced in the replies thereto, from our several branches, engaged the attention of the Meeting.

Eighteenth of the Month and Fifth of the Week.

The Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Queries were read, the answers thereto deliberately considered, and summaries adopted.

The Minutes of the Representative Committee or Meeting for Sufferings, were read, and their labors approved.

By Reports received from the several branches of our Yearly Meeting, we are informed that the following Friends are appointed members of the Representative Committee or Meeting for Sufferings, for the ensuing year:
