The Comptroller is the auditor of public accounts, excepting of those payable from the Canal and Free School Funds; manages the funds of the State; loans its moneys; and superintends the collection of its taxes, and the payment of current expenses of the State. He is a Commissioner of the Land Office and of the Canal Fund, a member of the Canal Board, and of the Board of State Canvassers, a Trustee of the Idiot Asylum, of the Capitol and State Hall, a trustee of Union College, a member of the State Board of Audit, and ex officio a member of the State Board of Charities. He is elected biennially (each odd year), receives a salary of $6,000, and is allowed a deputy, an accountant and clerks. |
