Therefore faith the Apostle, Grieve not the Holy Spirit Eph. 4. of God, whereby ye are fealed unto the Day of Redemption. 30. And again in another Place, Quench not the Spirit. But i Thef. one Text for all to enforce thefe Exhortations, and to 5. 19. prove the Divinity of the Holy Ghoft, is that faying of our bleffed Saviour's in the Gospel, All manner of Sin Matth. and Blafphemy ball be forgiven unto Men (namely upon 12. 31. their Repentance) but Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (which hardens the Heart against the Means of Grace) hall not be forgiven unto Men. And whosoever speaketh a Word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him but whofoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this World, neither in the World to come. Not that any Offence against one in the glorious Trinity is lefs Criminal than against another; for as the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is all one, fo he that finneth against the one, is alike guilty against another: But ifany, miftaken by Chrift's low Appearance in the World, did neglect him at first, as the Son of Mary, and the Son of Man? only, or did not inantly adore him as the Meffiah, he finned indeed, but finned not unto Death, if afterwards he acknowledged him to be the Son of God, and believed in him.

In this Respect St. Paul, who had been a Blafphemer and a Perfecuter, obtained Mercy, because he did it 1 Tim. ignorantly in Unbelief: But thefe who blafphemed the 1. 13. blessed for ever, is a moft powerful Argument to draw our Love (as Light doth the Eye) to that one chief Good, and all good God Almighty.

Hear, O Ifrael, the Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy Soul, and with all thy Heart, and with all thy Mind, and with all thy Strength: This is the firft Commandment, and the fecond is like unto it, namely this, Thou shalt love thy Neighbour as thy Jelf, on these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets on souls gried actors

We may love our felves, and love our Neighbours, and love all Men in whom we obferve any Impreffion of Goodness and God's Image; but we must love God, and cannot but love him for his own fake only, and all other Things in him, and for him, who is the Fountain of all Goodness, from whom all created! Beauties and Perfections flow, as Rays of Light from the Sun.
