ADVERTISEMENT TO THE FOURTH EDITION.

BOWD. COLL., MAY 13, 1843.

The following treatise was originally prepared with reference exclusively to a College course of instruction. Since the publication of the first edition, the first six sections have been made a part of the requisition for admission into the Freshman class of this College. Various simplifications have, therefore, been introduced in the succeeding editions in order more fully to meet the wants of those commencing with this work the study of Algebra. The present edition, in particular, has been carefully revised with reference to this object and such further changes made as appeared still to be desirable. The work will now, it is believed, be found sufficiently elementary for general use.
