DID you know that there are

brand-new Garratts in Spain and 2-6-0's in Indonesia; that in 1939 one could buy three meals a day on the Exposition Flyer for 90 cents; that Frisco and Santa Fe have recently pooled diesel power between Birmingham, Ala., and Los Angeles on symbol freights as a test; that Southern has its design people working on a 200-ton-capacity freight car; that one road designed (but never ordered) a streamlined 2-8-4 as early as 1934; or that the U. S. may have lost the record for the world's fastest freight train? Neither did we until recently when these and other items turned up in correspondence, research, and miscellaneous reading. Of course we'll get details and photos into TRAINS as soon as possible (perhaps even in this issue). For keeping briefed on what's important and interesting is essential to keeping TRAINS the magazine of railroading.
