The undersigned, directors of the Michigan Central Railroad Company, herewith submit to you their annual report, embracing the business of the year ending December 1st, 1857, according to the provisions of their charter, and the amendment thereto, approved March 28th, 1846, as follows, viz:

1st. The length of their road from Detroit to its western terminus, at line of Indiana, is... 221 miles. 2d. The cost of constructing the same,......$9,796,883 94 3d. The indebtedness of the company for

materials in progress of delivery, or execution on account of construction, as near as can be ascertained,. . . . .

4th. The capital stock of the company, subscribed and actually paid in,.....

5th. The amount of loans made to the company for the purpose of constructing said railroad, or purchasing, constructing, chartering or hiring steamboats, is.....

REPORT of the Committee on State Affairs, in relation to "A bill to regulate Fisheries in the waters of the State of Michigan.'

The Committee on State Affairs, to whom was referred the "Bill to regulate Fisheries in the waters of the State of Michigan," have had the same under consideration, and report the same back, with a few minor amendments. Your committee have made some examination into the facts stated in the numerously signed memorials which have been presented to the Senate, and learn that nearly all, and your committee believe all, our sister States having fisheries to protect, have long had the most stringent statutory provisions for their preservation. Every State bordering upon the Atlantic coast have with the greatest care guarded the valuable fish which seek the inland streams from the ocean to spawn and increase their species.
