LIST OF SENATORS ELECTED AT THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF NOVEMBER, A. D., 1882.

I Ernst G. Timme, Secretary of State of the state of Wisconsin, do hereby certify that the foregoing is a correct list of the members of the senate of the state of Wisconsin, elected at the general election held on the 7th day of November. A. D. 1882, as appears from the certificates of the several county clerks of the several counties comprising the senatorial districts named in the foregoing list, which certificates are now on tile in this office.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and affixed my official seal, at the capitol in the city of Madison this 9th day of January, A. D. 1883.

The roll of senators-elect being called, the following senators appeared at the clerk's desk and subscribed to the oath of office, which was administered by the president:

Senators Blake, Carey, Cottrill, Jonas, Lord, McDonald, Minor, Parry, Reed, Ringle, Sherman, Stanley, Wall, Warner, Webb and Wiley.

Senator Noah D. Comstock affirmed.

The roll was called and the following senators answered to their names:

Senators Ackley, Adams, Bennett, Blake, Carey, Chase, Colman, Comstock, Cottrill, Erwin, Flint, Hill, Hudd, Jonas, Kingston, Lord, McDonald, Meffert, Minor, Palmetier, Parry, Pingel, Randall, Reed, Ringle, Ryland, Sherman, Smith Stanley, Wall, Warner, Webb and Wiley.

Senator Palmetier presented the name of Charles E. Bross as a candidate for chief clerk.

Senator Smith presented the name of Carl Zillier.

The roll was called and the following senators voted for Charles E. Bross:

Senators Bennett, Colman, Comstock, Erwin, Flint, Hill, Kingston, Lord, Meffert, Minor, Palmetier, Parry, Randall, Ryland, Stanley, Warner, Webb, and Wiley - 18.

The following senators voted for Carl Zillier:

Senators Ackley, Adams, Blake, Cary, Chase, Cottrill, Flint, Hudd, Jonas, McDonald, Pingel, Reed, Ringle, Sherman, Smith and Wall - 15.

Charles E. Bross having received a majority of all the votes cast, thereupon took the oath of office, which was administered by the president.

Senator Minor presented the name of A. D. Thorp as a candidate for seargeant-at-arms.

Senator Sherman presented name of F. W. Kickbush. The roll being called the following senators voted for A. D. Thorp.

Senators Bennett. Colman, Comstock, Erwin, Flint, Hill, Kingston, Lord, Meffert, Minor, Palmieter, Parry, Randall, Ryland, Stanley, Warner, Webb and Wiley.- 18.

The following senators voted for F. W. Kickbush:

Senators Ackley, Adams, Blake, Carey, Chase, Cottrill, Hudd, Jonas, McDonald, Pingel, Reed, Ringle, Sherman, Smith and Wall-15.

A. D. Thorp having received a majority of all the votes cast was declared elected sergeant-at-arms; whereupon he appeared at the clerk's desk and took the oath of office, which was administered by the president.

Senator Randall presented the name of Senator Geo. W. Ryland as a candidate for president pro tempore.

Senator Ackley presented the name of T. R. Hudd.

The following senators voted for Senator Geo. W. Ryland: Senators Bennett, Colman, Comstock, Erwin, Flint, Hill, Kingston, Lord, Meffert, Minor, Palmetier, Parry, Randall, Stanley, Warner, Webb, and Wiley - 17.

The following Senators voted for Senator T. R. Hudd: Senators Ackley, Adams, Blake, Carey, Chase, Cottrill, Jonas, McDonald, Pingel, Reed, Ringle, Sherman, Stanley and Wall-14.

Senator Ryland voted for Senator James F. Wiley.
Senator Hudd voted for Senator Enoch Chase.

The president appointed Senators Hudd and Wiley a committee to escort Senator Ryland to the chair, on assuming which he said:

SENATORS Without solicitation on my part you have elected me to the honorable and important position of president pro tempore, for which I return my graeful thanks. I crave your cordial support when I am called to perform the duties of my office, which I shall endeavor to do in a just and impartial manner.

Resolved, That the chief clerk of the senate be, and he is hereby instructed to notify the assembly that the senate is now organized, by the election of George W. Ryland as president, pro tem., Charles E. Bross as chief clerk and A. D. Thorp, as sergeant-at-arms, and is now ready to proceed to business.

Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring. That a joint committee consisting of two from the senate and three from the assembly be appointed to wait upon his excellency the governor, and inform him that both houses are organized and prepared to receive any communication he may be pleased to make.

Resolved, by the senate, the assembly concurring. That the joint rules of the last legislature be adopted as the joint rules of this legislature, until otherwise ordered.

Resolved, by the Senate the Assembly concurring, that Spencer F. Baird, United States Fish Commissioner, of the United States Commission of Fish and Fisheries, be and he is hereby respectfully invited to visit Wisconsin either personally or through an agent to be designated by him for that purpose, with the view to the establishment within this state of a United States fishery and hatching house for fish, at some suitable place to be approved by him, and that a duly certified copy of this resolution, attested by the chief clerks of the senate and assembly be forthwith transmitted to said Spencer F. Baird, at the city of Washington in the District of Columbia.

The rules were suspended and the resolution adopted.

On motion of Senator Hudd,
