SEC. 19. That George McFadden, Arnold Downing and Ebenezer Clewett be and are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish a territorial road from Exeter, in the county of Green, via. Badger Mills, to Fort Winnebago, in Portage coun ty.

SEC. 20. That Albert Pierce, John Campbell and A. F. Steadman be and are hereby appointed commissioners to review, and if they shall deem necessary, re-locate and establish that part of the territorial road leading from Madison to the state line lying between Sugar River and Pierce's Creek, in the county of Green. SEC. 21. That James Earll, Charles Sutherland and Willis T. Bunton, be and they ate hereby appointed commissioners to alter the territorial road leading from Beloit to Madison; as fol lows, viz: Commencing at the southeast corner of section six, in town four north, of range ten east, in Rock county; thence on the most practicable route to a point in the road leading from Janesville to Madison, at or near William Quivey's in Dane coun ty.

SEC. 22. That David C. Read, Joseph D. Whitely and John Kirby be and they are hereby appointed commissioners with pow ers to survey and establish a territorial road commencing at the southwest corner of the town of Lyme, being township No. one, of range No. seventeen east, thence along the south line of said town, or as near as the ground shall be found suitable for making a good road, and ending at the southeast corner of the southwest quarter of section thirty-five, in town one, range eighteen east, being the town of Bloomfied; thence to intersect a road leading to Little Fort, in the State of Illinois,

SEC. 23. That John V. Suydam, Elisha Morrow, and Abra ham Brawley are hereby authorized to lay out and establish a ter ritorial road commencing at Green Bay, running due west to the Wisconsin river.

SEC. 24. That Paul Champlin, E. S. Abbott, and Pliny Pierce be and they are hereby appointed commissioners with powers to survey and establish a territorial road from the town of Manitouwoc, in Manitou woc county, westward to intersect at such point

or place as said commissioners may select and determine, the United States road leading from Green Bay to Fond du Lac.

SEC. 25. That William Shew, Franklin Z, Hicks and Charles Stephenson be and are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out and establish a territorial road from Sinepee, in Grant county, to the west end of Oak Creek pier, in Milwaukee county.

SEC 26. That all that part of a territorial road laid in pursuance of section twenty-six, of "an act to authorize the location of certain territorial roads therein mentioned," approved Februa ry 22, 1845, as runs through the lands of fra Lane, in town eleven, range fifteen, in Dodge county, be and the same is hereby vacated.

SEC. 27. That John Hasey, Hiram Randall and Alanson Trowbridge be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road from Waterloo creek near Mr. Soaper's house in Dane county, to Beaver Dam, in Dodge county.

SEC. 28. That John Dougan, Almeron Chapman and Duncan Campbell be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road commencing at the quarter section post on the north line of section twelve, in town ten, in range thirteen to or near Brooks' mills.

SEC. 29. That Benjamin Piper, David Lewis and Patrick. McKinney, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a road from Hustis' Ford to Pipersville, in Jefferson county.

SEC. 30. That Elbert Dickinson, Hiram Randall and John Roberts be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a road from Rising's Rapids, in Dodge county, to Fort Winnebago.

SEC. 31. That Minos Collins, Forrester Dexter and William Jones, he and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a road from Waupon, in Dodge county, to Fox River bridge; on the military road, in Portage county.

SEC. 32. That Hazen Morrison, George G. King, and John C. Gilman, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a road from Watertown to Madison.

SEC. 33. That there be a territorial road laid out from Watertown, in Jefferson county, by the way of West Bend, in Washington county, to Sheboygan, in Sheboygan county, and that Ben

jamin Morrison, of Jefferson county, Charles Higgins, of Wash ington county, and William Farnsworth, of Sheboygan county, be commissioners to lay out said road.

SEC. 34. That Peter V. Brown, Clark Lawton and Jacob Stam be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a road from Watertown to Lowell, in Dodge county.

SEC. 35. That Benjamin Labaree, Joseph O. Smith and Ira D. Lounsbury be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a road from Watertown to terminate in town nine,in range seventeen, in Dodge county.

SEC. 36. Said roads shall be laid out and returns made agreeable to the provisions of "an act to provide for laying out and opening territorial roads and for other purposes," passed January 11th, 1840; and when so laid out, shall be public highways, according to said act, and each of the aforesaid board of commissioners are hereby authorized to adopt as part of the roads hereby authorized any part of such public roads heretofore laid out as shall be suitable and proper.

SEC. 37. Whenever damages could be legally claimed by any person through whose land a territorial road may be laid, or proposed to be laid, if said road had been a town or county road, the commissioners shall proceed to ascertain the damages in the same manner that the town or county authorities would have ascertained the same if said road was a town or county road; and all duties required of the town or county clerk in such cases, in the case of laying a territorial road, may be performed by one of the commissioners.

AN ACT to organize the county of Sheboygan for judicial purposes.

BE IT ENACTED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That from and after the first day of May next the county of Sheboygan, in this Territory, shall be organized for

SEC. 2. That all writs, process, appeals, recognizances or other proceedings, which shall be pending undetermined in the Writs, &c. to District Court of Brown county, on the said first day of May next, which originated in courts of justice of the peace in said county of Sheboygan, shall be remanded back to and determined in said county of Sheboygan.

SEC. 3. That on the said first day of May, the clerk of the District Court of Brown county shall transmit all writs, process, appeals, recognizances or other proceedings originating as afore. SEC. 4. That for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this act, the legal voters of Sheboygan county may hold a special election on the first Tuesday of April next, in the respective tion when held Special electowns or precincts of said county, for the election of a sheriff, whose term of service shall commence on said first day of May, and continue until the first Monday of Jannary, A. D. 1847,

SEC. 5. That said election shall be conducted in all respects,

and the votes canvassed and returned in the same manner as is now provided by law in relation to the election of county officers. SEC. 6. That the Judge of the said third judicial district shall hold courts in said county of Sheboygan, semi-annually; one term on the first Monday of June, and another on the third Monday of Courts when September of each year.

SEC. 7. That the board of county commissioners of Sheboy. gan county, at their annual meeting in July next, shall levy a tax ers to levy tax. (to be assessed, levied and collected in the same manner as county taxes in said county,) not to exceed 1,200 dollars, for the purpose of building a suitable court house with rooms for county offices, at the county seat of said county, and the said commissioners shall be authorized to let the contract for the building of the same at any time after the first day of May next.

SEC. 8. That the electors of the county of Sheboygan, on the

Electors to first Tuesday of April next, may vote "yea," or "nay," in favor vote "yea" or ... nay.” or against the adoption of the last preceding section of this act; and if a majority of the votes cast upon the said question shall be "yea," then the said section shall take effect on the first day of May next; but if a majority of said votes shal! be "nay," then said section shall be void and of no effect. The said election shall be conducted and the votes received, returned and canvassed in the same manner as provided by law for the election of County officers.

SEC. 9. In case a majority of all the legal voters of Sheboygan county shall vote against the provisions of the 8th section of this act, it shall then be the duty of the county commissioners of said county to provide a temporary court house in said county, until further provided by law: Provided, however, that for such tem porary purposes, the said commissioners shall not expend ir. any one year more than one hundred dollars for renting and furnishing of such court house, or other county building.

SEC. 10. No person shall be authorized to vote for the purpo ses specified in the 8th section of this act, who shall not have been at least twenty days a resident of such county immediately preceding such election.
