"Preparedness--the Military and American Program."

-William I. Hull.

"The Christ of the Andes." (3d. edition.)

Over 1500 leaflets have been bought for use among children mainly. 1800 graduates of Normal Schools were supplied with suitable peace literature.

Two peace services have been held in a colored church in this city, doing good work for the cause.

An accredited delegate gave greeting from the Yearly Meeting at a Congress of International Women Workers for Peace held in San Francisco last summer.

In conjunction with Friends of the other branch, we have supplied money for the expenses of a lecturer, who has presented the Peace cause to the students in Pennsylvania Colleges. The secretary of our Committee undertook the work of distributing 4000 Peace Calendars prepared by a member of the other branch of Friends. Members of the Committee and other interested Friends, have done excellent service in various ways apart from direct Committee work. We note the most imporant of these services for the information of Friends. William I. Hull represents the Society of Friends on the Board of Trustees of the Church Peace Union which finances and supervises the work of the World Alliances of the Churches for

International Friendship. Benjamin F. Battin is the National Organizer of this association and has spent most of his time, for two years past, in visiting the countries of Europe and organizing branches of the Alliance, which has taken active part in ameliorating the conditions of prisoners and the general horrors of

war.

Many of our Friends have taken part in establishing and expanding the Fellowship of Reconciliation which. aims to end war by ending the spirit of war. William I. Hull is on its Executive Board. Jesse H. Holmes has given fifty addresses on Peace during the year. Paul M. Pearson, as director of the Pennsylvania Chautauqua, has put powerful Peace addresses on 160 programs in thirteen states. Dr. Hull has made seventy-three addresses and written books on "The Monroe Doctrine and on Military Preparedness." He is also one of the Board of Editors engaged in the preparation of plans for making terms of peace designed to be of a permanent character. The Executive Secretary of the Pennsylvania Peace and Arbitration Society, one of our members, devotes his entire time to the work. Many other members have made addresses.

The Peace Shop, opened largely through the efforts of Lucy Biddle Lewis and Hannah Clothier Hull, has developed into an important propaganda centre. Posters, window exhibits, study classes and an open

Forum conducted during an entire week, were among the means used.

A fuller description of this work will be found in the General Bulletin issued by the Philanthropic Committee, and available here to all who are interested.

Heretofore we have received an appropriation of $1000, $400 of which has been paid to Friends General Conference. Since all representation to the Conference is now made directly from the Yearly Meeting, it seems suitable to us that the Conference appropriation should be made directly and not through this Committee. We request a net appropriation of $600 for next year's work.

Signed by direction and on behalf of the Committee, WILLIAM C. COLES. SARAH W. KNIGHT, Clerks.

The report of the Central Committee of the Friends General Conference was received and read, as was also the audited account of its Treasurer. Accompanying the report was a certificate of the secretary of said Committee showing its total membership to be 100, and that by an apportionment made at a Meeting thereof held during the past year, the number allotted to our Meeting was 44.

While this report cannot be considered an official

one, since the Yearly Meeting has not up to this time made any appointments on the said Central Committee, yet in view of the matter having been referred to the General Nominating Committee to bring forward the names of 38 Friends from our Yearly Meeting to constitute our portion of this Central Committee, the meeting after consideration thereof, was united in receiving this report and in requesting our General Nominating Committee to bring forward, during the present week, the names of 6 Friends in addition to the 38 mentioned in the minute made last year, to constitute our portion of said Central Committee to take office and serve for the period mentioned in said. minute.

THIRD-DAY-AFTERNOON.

The Committee appointed yesterday to present our protest to the Philadelphia Board of Education. against military training in the Public Schools, made report expressing satisfaction at their meeting with said Board.

The report of our Correspondent for Isolated Members was read and approved, and Elizabeth Lloyd appointed as Correspondent for the Meeting for the ensuing year, and empowered to draw on our Treasurer for funds to pay the necessary expenses incident to her work.

To unite with the committee appointed by Women's

Meeting in preparing a letter to be sent by our correspondent for Isolated Members, the following Friends were appointed: George Walton, Jesse H. Holmes, Abel Mahan, Henry Gawthrop and James H. Atkinson.

To Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends:

Nearly six hundred copies of the letter prepared last year were sent to our members who are distant from any Friend's meeting. Forty-three of these were returned because they did not reach the persons addressed. Twenty-nine replies were received; the number is much less than usual because so many waited to give their replies in person. The gratification expressed by very many of our absent members for the annual letter sent them was very encouraging. The replies that came promptly were acknowledged and the others will be answered soon. It was a great pleasure for your correspondent to meet face to face many who were known to her only by name.

The expense of this correspondence will be shown in the report of the Yearly Meeting's treasurer. ELIZABETH LLOYD,

Correspondent for Isolated Members.

The annual report of the Committee on First-Day Schools was read, and the labors of the committee approved, together with the recommendations therein,
