BOILEAU ON THE GERMAN LANGUAGE.

THE LINGUIST: a complete Course of

BUNYAN'S PILGRIM'S

PROGRESS:

with an ORIGINAL MEMOIR; a KEY to the SPIRITUAL

PARTS of the DREAM; and all PASSAGES of SCRIPTURE, heretofore merely referred to, printed at length as Footnotes, rendering the work particularly useful for Family Reading. New and revised Edition, fcp. 8vo. neatly printed, 4s. 6d. cloth extra.

Amongst the many editions which have been printed of this highly interesting and extraordinary book, the present, it is presumed, will be esteemed the most acceptable. Here will be found both chapter and verse-shewing the source from whence the author's inspiration sprang, and the power of his genius in the application of his material. Great care also has been taken in marking the dialogue; needless repetition of names being avoided, and the whole rendered worthy of its great and admired writer. (836.) ***Ask for RICKERBY'S Edition.

DR. WATTS'S HORE LYRICE.-POEMS sacred to Devotion and Piety; to Virtue, Honour, and Friendship; and to the Memory of the Dead. With Memoir of the Author, by ROBERT SOUTHEY, Esq. Poet Laureate. Ruby Edition, post 18mo. 3s. 6d. cloth elegant, gilt edges.

"The public estimate of Dr. Watts, in his character of a poet, rests chiefly on his Hymns. The reader needs only, however, to peruse these Lyrics to perceive that he has claims to a higher place among English poets than would be justly due to him merely as the author of those favourite but often feeble compositions. In a period like ours, there would appear to be no sufficient reason why the superior intellectual value of the present collection should prevent its rivalling the Hymns in popularity-a circumstance to be desired by all who seek the advancement of virtue and piety."-PREFACE.

INSTRUCTIONS in the GERMAN LANGUAGE; in which attention is particularly directed to Peculiarities in Exemplified by Grammatical Forms and Construction. Selections from the best Authors. By D. BOILEAU, Author of "The Nature and Genius of the German Language," &c. New Edit. carefully revised and corrected, 12mo. 7s. "This work was always a favourite with us, and the publication of a new edition affords the best proof that it has not escaped the attention of the public. The study of German, both for literary and mercantile purposes, is now very general amongst all classes; and those who wish to acquire a knowledge of the language with a comparatively small expenditure of time and thought, and in a pleasant, attractive way, will provide themselves with a copy of The Linguist. The present edition, which is in a porta-THE DEITY: a Poem, in Twelve Books. ble pocket form, has been revised and corrected."

THE BOOK of TRADES; or Circle of the Useful Arts. Embellished with 20 Engravings on steel, and 150 Woodcuts. 1 vol. 16mo. 6s. cloth; or 7s. bound in roan, for use in Schools.

This work comprises an account of the Arts by which man is provided with food, clothing, shelter, and the various conveniences and luxuries of life. Great care has been taken to render its details accurate and intelligible. Many of the trades are described from notes taken during a recent inspection of the districts in the manufactories where the operations are in progress; others have been furnished or corrected by persons engaged in them; and an exact account, abundantly illustrated by cuts, is given of the principal machinery in use: the book consequently exhibits the present state of the most important sources of wealth to which this country owes its prosperity.

The Third Edition, considerably improved, with a Preface, on the Use of the Book of Trades in Schools. (877.) Glasgow: R. Griffin and Co. London: Tegg and Son.

Volume will be completed in December 1837. (882.) THE PICTORIAL EDITION of the

BOOK of COMMON PRAYER. The Pictorial Edition of the Book of Common Prayer will form a Companion Volume to the Pictorial Bible,' and the Publishers beg to state, that whilst it is their design to produce one of the most splendidly illustrated books which has appeared in this or any other country, they are anxious to offer an edition of our Liturgy which, in its Annotations, shall be found as useful and unexceptionable as the Notes to the Bible which they are publishing with such signal success. It is obvious that the Annotations and Introductory matter to the Common Prayer should be written by a Clergyman of the Church of England; and they are fortunate in having been able to contide this department of the work to the Rev. H. STEBBING, Minister of St. James's Episcopal Chapel, Hampstead Road. The illustrative Engravings will consist of Views of the Cathedrals, Collegiate Churches and Chapels, and most remarkable Monastic Ruins of the United Kingdom, and Compositions after, or copies of celebrated works of the great masters in Painting and Sculpture. In THE PSALMS, the Engravings will be entirely from Original Designs, by W HARVEY, Esq. The total number of Engravings will be about Six Hundred. Published in Monthly Parts, price 2s. 6d. each, to form a Companion Volume to the Pictorial Bible. (883.)

The embellishments are engraved from drawings by many accomplished artists, as Harding, Cox, Fielding, Creswick, &c. AN

NEW AND CHEAP SCHOOL ATLAS.

INTRODUCTORY

ATLAS

of

MODERN GEOGRAPHY: with an Index, containing the Names of all the Places laid down in the Maps, the Countries in which they are situated, and their Latitude and Longitude. By ALEXANDER REID, M.A. Rector of the Circus Place School, Edinburgh. Beautifully coloured, and neatly half-bound in morocco, only 7s.

**This Atlas has been prepared chiefly with the view of supplying the demand occasioned by the increasing attention paid to the study of Geography in Parochial and other Elementary Schools; and it is offered to the public at a price which places it within the reach of many who have hitherto been prevented, by the want of a cheap manual, from cultivating that interesting and useful branch of education. Very great labour has been bestowed upon the Index: it contains the Name of every place laid down in the Map, and, besides the Number of the Map in which each place is to be found, mentions also the Country in which it is situated. The Names of Places are accented according to the best authorities on the subject, or according to the analogy of similar words, either in the language of the country in which the places are situated, or in the English language. In short, no exertions have been spared to combine cheapness of price with convenience of form and size, distinctness of delineation in the Maps, and accuracy in every department of the Work. (903.)

This work is the great authority on the Mining Laws of Spain and the New Republics of America. The author, Don Francisco Xavier de Gamboa, was an eminent lawyer, who had held several high offices under the Crown of Spain, in the reign of Charles III. It is highly interesting, not only as displaying a profound knowledge of the Civil Law, but also as containing much historical and scientific information on the various subjects connected with Mining, and the Reduction of the Metallic Ores.
