Meditation.

HEN the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you."-S. John XX. 19.

Sweet legacy of peace; first fruits of my Lord's resurrection from the grave; Let me, now that I am about to lie down in a posture of death, seek from Him that peace which this world cannot give; and may He who died and was buried grant me His peace this night in the sepulture of quiet sleep. The waning day has departed; even so life departeth a lifeless life. The night cometh; even so death cometh a deathless death. But whether by day or night, in life or death, waking or sleeping, may it be mine to enjoy that peace which union with my Lord imparts. So may I now lay me down in peace and take my rest-so may I hereafter rest in peace when the sleep of death shall come; and should to-morrow's dawn be added to the span of this mortal life, may it be to me a symbol of

the resurrection from the dead, and of the dayspring of life and peace eternal.

My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.

Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young : even Thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.

Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house: they will be alway praising Thee.

Blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee : in whose heart are Thy ways.

Who going through the vale of misery use it for a well and the pools are filled with water.

They will go from strength to strength and unto the God of gods appeareth every one of them in Sion.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: hearken, O God of Jacob.

Behold, O God our defender and look upon the face of Thine Anointed.

For one day in Thy courts is better than a thousand.

I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of ungodliness.

For the Lord God is a light and defence: the Lord will give grace and worship, and no good thing shall He withhold from them that live a godly life.

O Lord God of hosts: blessed is the man that putteth his trust in Thee.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

PSALM IV.

Cum invocarem.

TEAR me when I call, O God of my righteousness Thou hast set me at liberty when I was in trouble; have mercy upon me, and hearken unto my prayer.

O ye sons of men, how long will ye blaspheme mine honour and have such pleasure in vanity, and seek after leasing?

Know this also, that the Lord hath chosen to Himself the man that is godly when I call upon the Lord, He will hear me.

Stand in awe, and sin not commune with your own heart, and in your chamber, and be still.

Offer the sacrifice of righteousness your trust in the Lord.

There be many that say: Who will show us any good?

Lord, lift Thou up the light of Thy countenance upon us.

Thou hast put gladness in my heart since the time that their corn, and wine, and oil, increased.

I will lay me down in peace, and take my rest for it is Thou, Lord, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Thy righteousness.

Bow down Thine ear to me make haste to deliver me.

And be Thou my strong rock, and house of defence that Thou mayest save me.

For Thou art my strong rock, and my castle : be Thou also my guide, and lead me for Thy Name's sake.

Draw me out of the net, that they have laid privily for me: for Thou art my strength.

Into Thy hands I commend my spirit for Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, thou God of truth.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
