This being the day designated by the constitution for the meeting of the legislature, and the Representatives having assembled at the capitol, they were called to order by Hon. Daniel H. Deming, of Lenawee, on whose motion, Hon. Charles M. O'Malley, of Mackinac, was unanimously chosen Speaker pro tempore.

On motion of Hon. John N. Ingersoll, of Chippewa,

Augustine W. Hovey, was unanimously appointed Clerk pro tempore. Hon. George B. Turner, of Cass, moved that D. D. Rouse be appointed Sergeant-at-Arms pro tempore, which motion was,

On motion of Hon. Elijah Hawley, Jr., of Wayne,

Laid on the table.

On motion of Hon. Nathan C. Parkhurst, of Oakland,

David A. Rhodes was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms pro tempore. The roll of the members elect was then called by the Clerk pro tempore, when the following Representatives answered to their names: Barry-John Bowne.
