God and men, who humbled himself even to the death of the cross, that we might live through him; and who is now set down at the right hand of God, where he ever liveth to make intercession for us.

O Lord, I beseech thee, give me repentance, and faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ; and grant that the grace of God, which bringeth salvation, may effectually teach and persuade me to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify us unto himself "a peculiar people, zealous of good works."

Dispose me, O heavenly Father, so to obey the precepts, that I may inherit the promises of the Gospel. Bless me, O Lord, with all spiritual blessings in Christ. Bless me in forgiving my iniquities; and bless me in turning me from all iniquity. O, let the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world, cleanse me from all sin, and purge my conscience from dead works, to serve thee the living God.

Give me, O Lord, so to know Christ and

his life, that the same mind may be in me which was in Christ, and that I may be in the world as he was in the world.

Give me so to know Christ and his death, that I may feel the virtue and power of the cross of Christ within me, in being crucified to the world, and having the world crucified to me, and in crucifying the flesh with the affections and lusts; that the body of sin may be destroyed, and that henceforth I may not serve sin, nor obey it in the lust thereof.

Give me also to know Christ and the power of his resurrection, that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, so I also may walk in newness of life, and may mind and seek those things that are above, where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God.

Lord, make me ever mindful that I am nor mine own, but am bought with a price, even with the precious blood of thy beloved Son. And O, that the consideration of this astonishing instance of the Divine love and mercy may so powerfully affect my heart, that I may be persuaded thereby to glorify thee in my body and in my spirit, which are thine; and to live henceforward not unto myself, but unto Him that died for me. While I live, O Lord, I will

praise thy Name; I will sing praises unto my God while I have my being. O, let me show forth thy praise, not only with my lips, but in my life; let me praise and glorify thee by ordering my conversation aright, by devoting my heart to thy fear, and by offering up myself a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto thee, O God, which is my reasonable service.

Now the God of all grace, who hath called me unto his eternal glory, by Christ Jesus, establish, strengthen, settle me to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. HELL

Prayer for the Evening

O MOST gracious God, who daily multipliest upon us thy mercies notwithstanding we every day renew our provocations; accept, I beseech thee, my most humble and hearty thanks for thine unspeakable kindness to me, thine unworthy servant. Blessed be thy goodness, which has this day supplied me with food and necessaries, and preserved me in health-the chief of all outward enjoyments; and hath prospered me in all my ways, and raised up friends to be a comfort to me.

Adored be thy love and patience, for the assistance of thy Spirit in the duties of this day; and for not cutting me off in any act of those sins I have this day committed, particularly— [here confess the particular sins you have been guilty of]. Grant me a due sense of these endearing benefits; an earnest and hearty sorrow for having offended so gracious a God, to whose free mercy and bounty I stand indebted for all I have, or hope to enjoy. Remember

not against me my past iniquities, and the breaches of my baptismal vow, by which I have dishonored my Christian profession; but mercifully forgive and heal me, and let thy grace, and the blessed influences of thy Holy Spirit, defend me against all temptations for the time to come. My full purpose is to endeavor after a thorough amendment of my ways, and thou hast promised to assist me therein: O, let thine arm be my almighty aid; so shall I daily increase in righteousness and holiness.

Keep me under the defence and care of thy good providence this night; make my sleep safe and refreshing; fit me for my great change, that it may not surprise me unawares; but that having led a holy life, I may be happy in my death, and have comfort and a well-grounded hope in thee.

Give all men grace to repent of all their sins, and to become thy faithful servants. Let all Christians live up to the laws of that religion which they profess. Bless this commonwealth wherein I live; save and defend thy Church from schism and heresy, and the government from all treasons and conspiracies; give to the rich and prosperous, temperance and charity; to the poor and needy, patience and content. Preserve my friends and relations in their souls and bodies; forgive my enemies, and make them kindly affected towards me. Hear thesc my prayers, O merciful Father, for the sake of thy Son, our Advocate and only Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. Our Father, &c.

Meditations.

UNTO thee will I cry, O Lord; and early shall my prayer come before thee.

Blessed art thou, O Lord, who didst, as on this day, command the earth to bring forth the living creature after his kind; cattie, and creeping things, and beasts of the earth, after their
