The Gospel. St. John iii. 16.

GOD so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that who soever believeth in him should not

perish, but have everlasting life. For GOD sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only-begotten SON OF GOD. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in GOD.

TUESDAY IN WHITSUN-WEEK. The Collect.

O GOD, who as at this time didst teach the hearts of thy faithful people, by sending to them the light of thy HOLY SPIRIT; grant us by the same SPIRIT to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort, through the merits of CHRIST JESUS our Saviour, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same SPIRIT, one GOD, world without end. Amen.

For the Epistle. Acts viii. 14. WHEN the apostles, who were at Jerusalem, heard that Samaria had received the word of GOD, they sent unto them Peter and John; who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the HOLY GHOST; (for as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord JESUS :) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the HOLY GHOST.

To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice; and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him; for they know his voice: and a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him; for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spake JESUS unto them; but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. Then said JESUS unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep: all that ever came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to de stroy: I am come that they migh have life, and that they might have i more abundantly.

For the Epistle. Rev. iv. 1.

AFTER this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard, was as it were of a trumpet, talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and The Gospel. St. John x. 1. will show thee things which must be VERILY, verily, I say unto you, hereafter. And immediately I was He that entereth not by the door into in the Spirit; and behold, a throne the sheep-fold, but climbeth up some was set in heaven, and one sat on the other way, the same is a thief and a throne: and he that sat was to look robber. But he that entereth in by upon like a jasper and a sardine. the door, is the shepherd of the sheep. Istone: and there was a rainbow round

about the throne, in sight like unto an old can he enter the second time emerald. And round about the throne into his mother's womb, and be born? were four and twenty seats; and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold: and out of the throne proceeded lightnings, and thunderings, and voices. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits of GOD. And before the throne, there was a sea of glass, like unto crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind: and the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, who was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory, and honor, and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O LORD, to receive glory, and honor, and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are, and were created.

JESUS answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water, and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD. That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the SPIRIT, is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth; so is every one that is born of the SPIRIT. Nicode mus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? JESUS an swered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, we speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not; how shall ye believe, if i tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man, who is in hea ven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even sc must the Son of man be lifted up; that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

The Gospel. St. John iii. 1. THERE was a man of the Phari

sees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to JESUS by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come

from GoD': for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except GOD be with him. JESUS answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of GOD. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is
