The Gospel. St. Mark viii. 1. IN those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, JESUS called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them, I have compas. sion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: and if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these inen with bread here in the wilder ness? And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people. And they had a few small fishes; and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. So they did eat, and were filled; and they took up of the broken meat that was left, seven baskets. And they that had eaten were about four thousand. And he sent them away.

The Epistle. Rom. viii. 12. BRETHREN, we are debtors not to the flesh, to live after the flesh: for if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die; but if ye through the SPIRIT do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the SPIRIT OF GOD, they are the sons of GOD. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The SPIRIT itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of GOD. And if children, then heirs; heirs of GOD, and joint heirs with CHRIST: if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

The Epistle. 1 Cor. x. 1. BRETHREN, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud, and in the sea; and did all eat the same spiritual meat, and did all drink the same spiritual drink; (for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was CHRIST.) But with many of them GOD was not well pleased; for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them: as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to The Gospel. St. Matt. vii. 15. play. Neither let us commit fornica.
