RELIGION, THEOLOGY, &c.

COLLEGE AND SCHOOL GREEK TESTAMENT, WITH ENGLISH NOTES. By the Rev. S. T. BLOOMFIELD, D.D. F.S.A. of Sydney College, Cambridge; Vicar of Bisbrooke, Rutland. 2d Edition, with additions, and a new Map of Palestine, adapted to the Gospel History. 1 vol. 12mo. price 10s. 6d. cloth lettered.

Advertisement to the Second Edition.

In this edition, the following improvements have been introduced. Besides the addition of Notes to the Book of Revelation, there will be found prefixed to the work, a Genealogical Table of the Principal Events recorded in the New Testament from the Birth of Christ to the Destruction of Jerusalem; and a Brief Geographical Index of the principal Places mentioned therein: while, in order to illustrate still further the geography of the New Testament, a Map of Palestine, in the age of Christ, very carefully formed (under the especial direction of the editor himself) on the most recent and weighty authorities, now accompanies the volume. Though necessarily small, yet, being clearly and beautifully executed by Hall, it is sufficiently comprehensive to contain not only every place mentioned in the New Testament, but all others of any note.

These additions will, it is hoped, be found such as to render this Introductory Manual more generally useful, as an elementary book for young persons; and consequently, the Editor would hope, not unworthy of a continuance of that approbation from the public with which his previous labours have been honoured.

"Dr. Bloomfield's New Testament for the use of schools is an invaluable work. It is also entitled to the distinction of being regarded as an original production, the notes and critical apparatus being in general constructed with great labour for the present edition. It is impossible to say how far the public are indebted to Dr. Bloomfield for these labours of his industrious pen: they will carry down his name with honour to posterity."-EVANGELICAL MAGAZINE.

North. Germ.; Hanov.; Mulh. &c. &c. Parts I. to IV. to be completed in Ten Monthly Parts, price 5s. each, illustrated by upwards of 1000 Engravings on Wood.

"This appears likely to be a valuable work. It not only treats of the application of chemistry to the arts and manufactures, but it also enters very fully into the mechanical arrangement of the buildings, the plants, and implements of a great variety of trades, on which it communicates much lucid and well-arranged information. It is compiled with great care, and, besides containing the latest materials, is strictly confined to what is useful, without superfluous detail."-CIVIL ENGINEER.

"Dr. Ure's reputation precludes the necessity of our saying any thing in proof of the accuracy and sterling worth of this publication. It is drawn up in a style at once exact and popular, and is so well illustrated as to be level to the comprehension of the generality of readers. As a book of reference it is invaluable, and as such must speedily find its way into every well-selected library."-ECLECTIC REVIEW.

"We cannot well conceive a more perfect work of its kind; to the professionally practical man it cannot fail to be useful in the highest degree, but to the amateur or the half instructed theorist upon the subjects of which it treats, it is a most delightful book. THE DOCTRINE OF THE DELUGE; vindicating the Scriptural Account from the Doubts which have recently been cast upon it by Geological Speculations. By the Rev. LEVESON VERNON HARCOURT. 2 vols. 8vo. 36s. cloth lettered.

"We most frankly acknowledge that the work before us is rich in original illustration; the good intentions, masterly scholarship, and ingenious investigation of the author, can never be called in question. He has modestly said that he owes all to Bryant; but we must hesitate in awarding him such humble praise. He has gone far beyond his favourite author, and has done much to convince future travellers in the same path of literature that the facts and doctrines of revelation are susceptible of far larger illustration from human history than they have hitherto received.”

"We know not in what part of the works of Washington Irving, or even of the everpraised Charles Lamb, to look for pictures like these. They are just such as Goldsmith would have described, had he written of such places and their associations in prose." UNITED SERVICE GAZ. "Thrice beautiful,-beautiful in its subjects, beautiful in its literary execution, and beautiful in the getting up. The embellishments must excite general admiration." ST. JAMES'S CHRONICLE.

COLONIZATION AND CHRISTIANITY. A Popular History of the Treatment of the Natives by the Europeans in all their Colonies. 1 vol. post 8vo. price 10s. 6d. cloth lettered.

"The benevolent author of the volume before us is unwearied in his labours to improve the 'moral atmosphere of humanity.' There is scarcely a sentence he has ever written that has not borne some evidence of his earnest anxiety to better his fellowcreatures and make them happier; and the book before us is another evidence of this, and a most powerful one."-COURT JOURNAL.

"Nothing can better become us than to be instrumental in propagating the facts, the inferences, and the doctrines which our author has, with singular earnestness, ability, and force of eloquence, laid before us. It is a noble cause in which he has embarked; no other could better become the religious, the literary, character of William Howitt. Never has any other author discussed the subject so plainly and philosophically." MONTHLY REVIEW. By Mrs. JOHN SANDFORD.

"The present portion (vol. 5) of the work exhibits half a dozen very distinct literary qualities, each of which would establish the renown of an author, were it the entire capital with which he traded. The Doctor storms us with quotations-with extracts both in prose and verse from many languages: he is often grave and sensible as well as erudite; his facetiousness and waggery would make a reputation; his fertility and sound sense come on the reader with surprising force, and not the less that one can never count upon any uniform continuance, save a ceaseless flow of ideas and words that never before were connected, and never will be again."-MONTHLY REVIEW.
