PSALM XL.

1.

UNNUMBER'D comforts to my soul
God's tender care bestowed;

Before my infant heart conceiv'd
From whom those comforts flow'd.

2.

When worn with sickness, oft hast thou
With health renew'd my face;

And, when in sins and sorrows sunk,
Reviv'd my soul with grace.

3.

Through every period of my life

Thy precepts I'll pursue;

And after death, in distant worlds,

The glorious theme renew.

PSALM XLI.

1.

WHEN rising from the bed of death,
O'erwhelm'd with guilt and fear,

I see my Maker, face to face,
Oh! how shall I appear.

2.

If yet, while pardon may be found,
And mercy may be sought,

My heart with inward horror shrinks,
And trembles at the thought.;

3.

When thou, oh Lord, shalt stand disclos'd,

In majesty severe,

To sit in judgment on my soul,

Oh! how shall I appear?

PSALM XLII.

1.

THOU didst, O mighty God, exist,
Ere time began its race!
Before the ample elements
Fill'd up the void of space;

2.

Ere men ador'd or angels knew, Or prais'd thy wond'rous name, Thy bliss, oh sacred spring of life, Thy glory was the same!

3.

So, 'midst dissolving elements,
From dissolution free,-

Unchang'd in everlasting years,
Shall thy existence be!

PSALM XLIII.

1.

GOD of my life, to Thee I call;
Afflicted at thy feet I fall;

When the great water-floods prevail,
Leave not my trembling heart to fail.

2.

Friend of the friendless and the faint, Where should I lodge my deep complaint? Where, but with Thee, whose open door Invites the friendless and the poor?

3.

Did ever mourner plead with Thee,
And thou refuse the mourner's plea ?
Poor though I am, despised, forgot,
Yet God, my God forgets me not.

PSALM XLIV.

1.

GOD moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform!

He plants his footsteps in the sea-
He rides upon the storm.

2.

Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never failing skill,

He treasures up his vast designs,
And works his sov'reign will.

3.

Judge not the Lord by human thought,
The lowly heart shall prove

His ways to be with mercy fraught,
To those who trust His love!
