The amendments of the Council to the following bills were

then severally concurred in, viz:

No. 5, "A bill to organize the county of St. Croix ;" and,

No. 15, "A bill to amend an act of the Revised Statutes of Wisconsin of 1839, entitled, An act concerning the supreme and district courts.'

Ordered, That the clerk request the concurrence of the Coun. cil in bills Nos. 28 and 34, (of this House,) and inform them of the concurrence of this House in bills Nos. 29 and 34, (C. F.,) and in the amendments to bills Nos. 5 and 15.

No. 4, "A bill to establish certain ferrics therein named," in which the Council insisted on their amendments, was then taken up, and the question being whether the House would insist on their non-concurrence,

Mr. Wells moved the indefinite postponement of said question, and called for the ayes and noes thereon.

Mr. Bracken moved that the House adjourn until 2 o'clock P. M.

The motion was lost.

The ayes and noes were then taken on the motion of Mr. Wells, and were as follows:

Mr. Ray presented the account of J. C. Dennis & Co., for 300 copies of Coopers Tactics, and for stationary.

Mr. Story presented the account of John Catlin, for preparing the Local Laws for publication.

Ordered, That the said accounts be referred to the committee on claims.

Mr. Childs, from the committee on engrossed bills, by leave, reported No. 11, "Joint resolution calling on the Secretary of the Territory for certain information," to be correctly engrossed.

The serjeant-at-arms returned and reported Messrs. Longstreet and Sutherland in attendance.

No. 30, (Council file,) entitled, "A bill to provide for taking the census or enumeration of the inhabitants of this Territory, and to fix the time of holding an extra session of the Legislative Assembly," was then taken up, and the question being on order. ing the said bill to a third reading,

Mr. Cruson moved that the said bill be recommitted to the com. mittee of the whole House.

The ayes and noes being called on said question, were as fol lows:

Ayes-Messrs. Baldwin, Billings, Blackstone, Bracken, Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Craig, Cruson, Hoyt, Longstreet, Mc Gregor, Newman, Ray, Shew, Stevens, Story, Street and Wells 19.

So the motion was agreed to.

No. 43, "A bill relating to the duties of register of deeds of the county of Rock," was then ordered to be engrossed and read a

third time.

On motion of Mr. Show,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole, Mr. Billings in the chair, on the aforesaid bill, No. 30, and on a bill and resolution entitled as follows, viz:

No. 35, "A bill to amend an act of the Statutes of the Terri tory of Wisconsin, entitled, An act concerning costs and fees."

No. 13,"Resolution relating to the settlement of the accounts of the late acting commissioner."

After a short time the committee rose and, by their chairman, reported to the House resolution No. 13, and bill No. 30 with, and bill No. 35 without, amendments.

The House concurred in the amendments of the committee to resolution No. 13.

On motion of Mr. Conroe,

Ordered, That said resolution, No. 13, be indefinitely postponed.

The question was then taken on ordering bill No. 35, to be engrossed and read a third time, and the ayes and noes being called on said question, were as follows:

Ayes-Messrs. Baldwin, Billings, Bracken, Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Craig, Cruson, Dewey, Jenkins, Shew, Sholes, Stevens, Street and Sutherland--15.

Noes-Messrs. Beardsley, Hoyt, McGregor, Newman, Ray, Shackelford, Story, Wells and Whiton, speaker-9.

So the said bill was ordered to be engrossed and read a third time.

Message from the Council by their secretary:

"Mr. Speaker--The Council have passed No. 37, A bill for the relief of insolvent debtors;' and have concurred in all the

amendments of this House to No. 24, A bill to establish the county of Sac and to define its limits '--in the second with an amendment--in which bill, and amendment, the concurrence of this House is requested.

"And have rejected, on its first reading, bill No. 22, (of this House,) entitled, A bill to license teamsters.'

"The Governor has notified the Council that he did on yester. day, approve the following bills, viz:

"An act to organize the county of Calumet, and to lay off the county of Winnebago.'

"An act to divide the town of Delevan, and for other purposes.'

"An act to amend an act, entitled, An act relating to the militia.' And,

"An act to exonerate the several counties of the Territory from the payment of certain taxes.'

And then he withdrew.

The question was then taken on agreeing to the amendment of the committee of the whole to bill No. 30, and the ayes and noes being called, were as follows:

Ayes-Messrs. Baldwin, Billings, Blackstone, Bracken, Brun. son, Craig, Cruson, Dewey, Jenkins, McGregor, Sholes, Story and Street-13.

Noes-Messrs. Beardsley, Childs, Conroe, Hoyt, Newman, Ray, Shackelford, Shew, Stevens, Sutherland, Wells and Whi ton, speaker-12.

So the House agreed to the amendment of the committee.

On motion of Mr. Wells,

A call of the House was had and the serjeant-at-arms was sent after Mr. Longstreet, who was not in his seat.

After a short time the serjeant-at-arms returned and reported that Mr. Longstreet was unable to attend on account of ill

ness.

On motion of Mr. Sholes,

Ordered, That said bill, No. 30, be laid on the table.

Mr. Sholes, by leave, introduced the following resolution, which was read the first and second time, viz :

No. 14, "Joint resolution relative to the printing of the laws passed at the present session of the Legislative Assembly."

Mr. Ray presented a communication from William B. Slaughter, Secretary of Wisconsin, in answer to a resolution of 31st December last, requiring him to report in what manner he had disbursed the moneys that he has received as fiscal agent of this Territory.

Referred to the committee on claims.

On motion of Mr. Shackelford,

Ordered, That the report of Moses M. Strong, made to this House this morning, be also referred to the committee on claims.

Mr. Dewey, by leave, introduced memorial No. 6, entitled, "Memorial to Congress to extend the jurisdiction of justices of the peace."

Which was read the first and second time.

(The said memorial is contained in the Appendix.)

Mr. Jenkins, agreeably to previous notice for leave, introduced No. 49, "A bill to regulate the mode of petitioning the Legislative Assembly."

Which was read the first and second time, and ordered to be printed.

On motion of Mr. Wells,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole, Mr. Dewey in the chair, having under consideration the following resolution and bills, viz:

No. 12, "Resolution relating to seals."

No. 37, "A bill to provide for the appointment of agents to demand fugitives from justice, and for issuing search warrants.'
