(α). Give the English version of the passage.

(δ). There have been different meanings assigned to εὐσεβεῖν and to ἀμοιβὰς, and different views as to the nom. case to μανθανέτωσαν: 7. παραδιατριβάὶ διεφθαρμένων ἀνθρώπων τὸν νοῦν, καὶ ἀπεστερημένων τῆς ἀληθείας νομιζόντων πορισμὸν εἶναι τὴν εὐσέβειαν. Translate this, correcting the English version, stating the reason for the correction, and giving a note on παραδιατριβαὶ.

8. πᾶσα γραφὴ θεόπνευστος καὶ ὠφέλιμος πρὸς διδασκαλίαν.

Give the different renderings, and the reasons from the context against the English version.

1. Jo. David Michaelis has suggested an opinion in reference to the descendants of Noah, Gen. x., which has since generally prevailed?

2. What inference has been drawn from the plural form of some of these names? This inference is weak?

3. Gen. ix. 27. "God shall enlarge Japhet, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem." Some have maintained that Gen. x. is intended to describe the fulfilment of this Prophecy; write a short dissertation on this subject.

4. The four sons of Javan (Gen. x. 4) are named-Elishah (IN) ; Tarshish (on); Kittim (on), and Dodanim (077). (a). How is this word (considered as the name of a region) written and explained by Josephus? A trace of it is found in Homer. (b) What other mention of it occurs in the Cld Testament, and in connexion with what branch of commerce? (c) Its being called isles does not necessarily imply islands?
