A Court Martial commenced on board the Duke, in Portmouth Harbour, on Wednesday the 12th inft. on a charge of mutiny on the 28th of April, 1787, on board his Majesty's armed veffel Bounty, for running away with the fhip, and deferting his Majefty's fervice, against Jofeph Coleman, Charles Norman, Thomas Mackintoth, Peter Haywood, Ifaac Morris, John Milward, William Mufpratt, Thomas Birkett, Thomas Ellifon, and Michael Byrn. The evidence for the profecution closed on Friday night the 14th inft. and the Court indulged the prifoners till Monday to give in their defence, and on Tueday took the whole into their confideration, when they were pleafed to pafs fentence of death on Haywood, Morris, Millward, Mufpratt, Birkett, and Ellifon, the two fuft of whom the Court recommended to mercy. Coleman, Norman, Mackintosh, and Byrn, left arm, bit him upon the pit of the Romach, were acquitted and discharged.

19. The Seff ons ended at the Old Bailey, when the following capital cor vićts received fentence of death, viz. Thomas Crump, John Dean, William Wane, Thomas Kirk, Robert Wallace, Thomas Sticks alias Wood, Thomas Cook, John Cook, Richard Stanniforth, James Auikin alias Allkin, Mary Burgefs, and John Smith alias Irefon.
