the usual type, will give 134 pages of print of the size customary in works of Science, History, Voyages, Travels, &c.!

It thus appears that each Number of the Literary Gazette contains matter equal in quantity to a Demy Octavo Pamphlet of 8 sheets, or 136 pages!

The compressed mode of printing the Literary Gazette is rendered remarkably striking by the following Statement.

[blocks in formation]

In giving a book arrangement to such a mass of matter as is comprised in 52 Numbers of the Literary Gazette, very considerable space must be allotted for head lines, titles, division of parts, chapters, &c. This has been purposely omitted, or the results of the last three columns would have been higher. The Reader may therefore the more fully rely on the foregoing moderate calculation, which clearly shows that the Six Volumes of the Literary Gazette, if printed in the ordinary Book mode, would expand to the amazing extent of ONE HUNDRED VOLUMES!!!
