NOTE. To each regiment and battalion a subaltern will be aysigned as adjutant, and one as quartermaster, and in all cases where officers of the line are assigned to the staff, their pay in the line is merged in that of the staff, which is, in fact, but an additional allow. ance for the extra expense attending such situations.
