This being the day fixel by the Constitution of the State for the meeting of the Legislature the Representatives elect convened in the Representative Hall, at the Capitol, and org inized, on motion of the. IIa. Justus Goodwin, of Calhoun, by choosing the Hon. Edwin II. Lothrop, of Kalamazɔɔ, Speaker pro tempore, and on motion of Hcn. F. J. Littlejohn, of Allegin, appointing E. J. Roberts, Clerk pro tempore.

Oa motion of Hon. H. Seeley, of Oakland, William Terry was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms pro tempore.

Oa motion of the IIon. Robert McClelland, of Monroe, the Clerk proceeded to call the roll, and the following members elect answered to their names, and being sworn into office by the Hon. E. Ransom, took their seats:

Whereupon, the Hon. Robert McClellan 1, was announcel as being dily elected Sepeaker of the House, and Messrs. Goodwin and Bush appɔlated a committee tɔ wait upon him to the Chair.

On motion of Mr. Littlejohn,

The House proceeded to the election of a Chief Clerk and the vote stool as follows:

Oa motion of Mr. Goodwin,

Resolved, That the rules of the last Legislature be the rules of this II use until further ordered.

O motion of Mr. Goodwin,

A con nittee of twɔ, consisting of Messrs. Goodwin and Bush, were appointed to wait upon the Senate and inform that body that the Ilouse were organized and ready to proceed to business.

Oi motion of Mr. Littlejohn,

Resolvel, Tanta com nittee of two be appointed to act with a like nnittee of the Senate, to wait on the Governor and inform hin; tha the two Houses are now crganized and ready to receive any communication he may have to make.

And the Speaker announced as such committee, Messrs. Littlejohn and Axford.

Mr. Goodwin offerel the following joint resolution, and the rule was suspended and the same adopted:

Resolved, That the joint rules and the rules of the joint conventions of the last Legislature, (the Senate concurring,) be the rules of the present Leg'slature, until otherwise ordered.

A committee from the Senate were announced informing the House that the Senate were organized and ready to proceed to business.

On motion of Mr. Videto,

Resolved, That the Sepaker be authorized to appoint two messengers to this House.

Whereupon, the Speaker appointed Benjamin R. Bagg and Guy

Ilinchman.

On motion of Mr. Goodwin,

Resolved, That there be a committee of three appointed to revise the rules of this House.

And the Speaker announced Messrs. Goodwin, Lamb and Lol:rop as said committec.

The committee appointed to wait upon the Governer having reported that they had performed that duty, and received for answer that he would immediately transmit a communication to the House,

Mr. J. M. Welch, the private secretary of the Governor, was ar. nounce with the annual message, which was read at the Clerk's desk, as follows:

The con tion of the State in regard to public health affords cause of congratulation. All apprehensions of the insalubrity of our climate are, by hippy experience, removel. General and almost universal health has prevailed for a long periol an affords the satisfactory assurance that the mild climate of Michigan is not only congenial to the health of man, but highly promɔive of that most d s'rible blesing. The diseases incident an 1 peculiar to our climate, are limited in number and easily subjected to proper medical treatment. New-Eng land, with its hills and mountains, its streams and its rivers, and which so many of our citizens are proud to acknowledge their mother-land,
