On motion of Wm. Mack, the first resolution was adopted.

On motion of Rev. Dr. Kemp, the second and third resolutions were adopted:

The Secretary read the following:

The Diocesan Librarian respectfully reports the library in good order. The books bequeathed by Bishop Knickerbacker have been plated, placed upon the shelves, and a list of them made. This bequest adds nine hundred and twenty-four volumes to the library. Eight hundred and fifty of these are theological, the remainder miscellaneous. The library has also received a gift from the Rev. George B. Engle of four bound volumes of the Gospel Messenger and two of the Banner of the Cross.

The library having been formed from bequests of our three departed Bishops and several clergymen, contains many duplicates and books of no use for its purposes. The Librarian would suggest that a thorough revision be made and all unnecessary books condemned and disposed of. Then a new catalogue should be prepared. But few copies of the first catalogue, made in 1880, remain, and it is only a partial one and now quite incorrect.

Respectfully submitted,

EMILY L. UPFOLD,

Diocesan Librarian.

On motion, the recommendations were referred to the Trustees of the Diocese, with power to act.

RT. REV. J. C. TALBOT,

EVANSVILLE, October 28, 1878.

Dear Bishop:-When in Italy making observations in the galleries of paintings, it occurred to me that the Holy Family, after Raphael, might be an acceptable painting for the Bishop's residence. Acting upon the consideration I made the purchase and ordered the frame made in Florence. The painting arrived with others for our house-came safely to hand, and to-day I have sent it by railway, B. L. herein, freight paid, to you. Please accept it, if agreeable to you, to be placed in the Bishop's residence. It may serve to remind you that as we made the tour of the world, our thoughts were often turned to those far away, and among them our beloved Bishop.

Truly yours,
