JOURNAL OF CONVENTION.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND., June 4th, 1895.

The Fifty-eighth Annual Meeting of the Convention of the Church in the Diocese of Indiana assembled in Grace Cathedral at 8 o'clock this evening, and after evening prayer said by the Rev. W. Northey Jones and Rev. J. H. W. Blake, the Bishop read his first annual address, as follows:

TO THE CLERGY AND LAITY OF THE

CHURCH IN INDIANA IN COUNCIL ASSEMBLED: Dear Brethren-The Church in Indiana stands at a critical point in her history. Her chief pastor has been

called to his rest.

The confidence that familiar and trusted

leadership begets, is for the moment shaken. The loving loyalty, product of years of faithful oversight, finds itself without the center upon which to fasten itself; a new leader is called to command, and a re-casting of lines and

methods

must follow. Shall it entail loss? Shall the

work of the Diocese lose the momentum which it has gained in its onward progress? Shall much valuable time be lost in recovering the impetus necessary to carry it on over its imperrilled interests-imperilled because they are young and need prompt and watchful care.

The well

grounded and well-established work of the Diocese will care for itself. For the young and tender plants there is room for earnest solicitude. If ever in the history of a Diocese there is need of devotion, consecration, faithful
