Statement of the Total Valuation of Property Within the State, and the Number of Cattle and Sheep and the Valuation thereof, for the following Years.

Net decrease of $37,453.41, equal to what would be derived from a levy of one and one-fourth mills on all the assessed property in the State.

The taxes levied for the year 1897 were only $678.60 more than those of 1896, notwithstanding that a new county was created and made a large levy.

The taxes levied for the year 1896 were $56,348.13 less than those of 1895. A total decrease of $93,122.94, equal to what would be derived upon a levy of three mills on all the assessed property in the State.

On conclusion of the reading of the message of His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Carpenter of the House moved that the joint session be dissolved, which motion prevailed, and the Senate returned to the Senate chamber.

The House reconvened at 3:25 p. m., Mr. Speaker in the chair.

On motion of Mr. Butler, the House thereupon adjourned until ten o'clock tomorrow.
