44 Sie meineten aber, er wäre unter den Gefährten, und kamen eine Tagreise, und suchten ihn unter den Gefreundten und Bekannten.

45 Und da sie ihn nicht fanden, gingen sie wiederum gen Jerusalem, und suchten ihn.

46 Und es begab sich nach drehen Tagen, fanden sie ihn im Tempel sitzen mitten unter den Lehrern, daß er ihnen zuhörete und sie fragte.

47 Und alle, die ihm zuhöreten, verwunderten sich seines Verstandes und seiner Antwort.

48 Und da sie ihn sahen, entsetzten sie sich. Und seine Mutter sprach zu ihm: Mein Sohn, warum hast du uns das gethan? Siehe, dein Vater und ich haben dich mit Schmerzen gesucht.

49 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was ist es, daß ihr mich gesucht habt? Wifset ihr nicht, daß ich seyn muß in dem, das meines Vaters ist?

50 Und sie verstanden das Wort nicht, das er mit ihnen redete.

51 Und er ging mit ihnen hinab, und kam gen Nazareth, und war ihnen unterthan. Und seine Mutter behielt alle diese Worte in ihrem Herzen.

52 Und Jesus nahm zu an Weisheit, Alter und Gnade beh Gott und den Menschen.

44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Fa

ther's business?

50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. 51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

CHAPTER III.

Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,

3 Und er fam in alle Gegend um den Jordan, und predigte die Taufe der Buße, zur Vergebung der Sünden;

4 Wie geschrieben stehet in dem Buche der Rede Jesaiä, des Propheten, der da sagt: Es ist eine Stimme eines Predigers in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, und machet seine Steige richtig!

5 Alle Thäler sollen voll werden, und alle Berge und Hügel sollen erniedriget werden; und was krumm ist, soll richtig werden, und was uneben ist, soll ebener Weg werden.

6 Und alles Fleisch wird den Heiland Gottes sehen.

7 Da sprach er zu dem Volke, das hinaus ging, daß es sich von ihm taufen ließe: Ihr Otterngezüchte, wer hat denn euch gewiesen, daß ihr dem zukünftigen Zorne entrinnen werdet?

8 Sehet zu, thut rechtschaffene Früchte der Bußze; und nehmet euch nicht vor zu sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater. Denn ich sage euch: Gott kann dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder erwecken.

9 Es ist schon die Art den Bäumen an die Wurzel gelegt, welcher Baum nicht gute Früchte bringet, wird abgehauen und in das Feuer geworfen.

10 Und das Volk fragte ihn, und sprach: Was sollen wir denn thun? 11 Er antwortete, und sprach zu ihnen: Wer zween Röcke hat, der gebe dem, der keinen hat; und wer Speise hat, thue auch also.

12 E8 kamen auch die Zöllner, daß sie sich taufen ließen, und sprachen zu ihm: Meister, was sollen denn wir thun?

13 Er sprach zu ihnen: Fordert nicht mehr, denn gesetzt ist.

14 Da fragten ihn auch die Kriegsleute, und sprachen: Was sollen denn wir thun? Und er sprach zu ihnen:

3 And he came into all the coun try about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins;

4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?

13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.

14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto

17 In desselben Hand ist die Wurfschaufel, und er wird seine Tenne fegen, und wird den Weizen in seine Scheuer sammeln, und die Spreu wird er mit ewigem Feuer verbrennen.

18 Und viel anders mehr vermahnete und verkündigte er dem Volke

19 Herodes aber, der Vierfürst, da er von ihm gestraft ward, um Herodias willen, seines Bruders Weib, und um alles Uebels willen, das Herodes that;

21 Und es begab sich, da sich alles Volf taufen ließ, und Jesus auch getauft war, und betete, daß sich der Himmel aufthat,

15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;

23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

CHAPTER IV.

ND Jesus being full of the

2 Und ward vierzig Tage lang von dem Teufel versucht. Und er aß nichts in denselbigen Tagen; und da dieselbigen ein Ende hatten, hungerte ihn darnach.

3 Der Teufel aber sprach zu ihm: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so sprich zu dem Steine, daß er Brod werde.

4 Und Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Es stehet geschrieben: Der Mensch lebt nicht allein vom Brode, sondern von einem jeglichen Worte

Gottes.

5 Und der Teufel führete ihn auf einen hohen Berg, und wies ihm alle Reiche der ganzen Welt in einem Augenblicke;

6 Und sprach zu ihm: diese Macht will ich dir alle geben, und ihre Herr lichkeit; denn sie ist mir übergeben, und ich gebe sie, welchem ich will.

7 So du nun mich willst anbeten, so soll es alles dein seyn.

8 Jesus antwortete ihm, und sprach: Hebe dich weg von mir, Satan! es stehet geschrieben: Du sollst Gott, deinen Herrn, anbeten, und ihm alleine dienen.

9 Und er führete ihn gen Jerusalem, und stellete ihn auf des Tempels Zinne, und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so laß dich von hinnen hinunter.

3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, com mand this stone that it be made bread.

4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me, and to whomsoever I will, I give it.

7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence.
