28 Da ging derselbige Knecht hinaus, und fand einen seiner Mitknechte, der war ihm hundert Groschen schuldig; und er griff ihn an, und würgete ihn, und sprach: Bezahle mir, was du mir schuldig bist!

29 Da fiel sein Mitknecht nieder, und bat ihn, und sprach: Habe Geduld mit mir, ich will dir alles bezah

len.

30 Er wollte aber nicht; sondern ging hin, und warf ihn ins Gefängniß, bis daß er bezahlte, was er schuldig war.

31 Da aber seine Mitknechte solches sahen, wurden sie sehr betrübt, und kamen, und brachten vor ihren Herrn alles, was sich begeben hatte.

32 Da forderte ihn sein Herr vor sich, und sprach zu ihm: Du Schaltsknecht, alle diese Schuld habe ich dir erlassen, dieweil du mich batest;

33 Solltest du denn dich nicht auch erbarmen über deinen Mitknecht, wie ich mich über dich erbarmet habe?

34 Und sein Herr ward zornig, und überantwortete ihn den Peinigern, bis daß er bezahlete alles, was er ihm schuldig war.

35 Also wird euch mein himmlischer Vater auch thun, so ihr nicht vergebet von euren Herzen, ein jeglicher seinem Bruder seine Fehler.

28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou ow

est.

29 And his fellow-servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst

me:

33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

CHAPTER XIX.

AND it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these say. ings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judea, beyond Jordan:

2 And great multitudes followed him, and he healed them there.

3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

4 Er antwortete aber, und sprach zu ihnen: Habt ihr nicht gelesen, daß, der im Anfang den Menschen gemacht hat, der machte, daß ein Mann und Weib seyn sollte?

5 und sprach: Darum wird ein Mensch Vater und Mutter verlassen, und an seinem Weibe hangen, und werden die zwey ein Fleisch seyn.

6 So sind sie nun nicht zweh, sondern ein Fleisch. Was nun Gott zusammen gefüget hat, das soll der Mensch nicht scheiden.

7 Da sprachen sie: Warum hat denn Moses geboten, einen Scheidebrief zu geben, und sich von ihr zu scheiden?

8 Er sprach zu ihnen: Moses hat euch erlaubet zu scheiden von euren Weibern, von eures Herzens Härtigkeit wegen; von Aubeginn aber ist es nicht also gewesen.

9 Ich aber sage euch: Wer sich von seinem Weibe scheidet (es sey denn um der Hurereh willen) und frevet eine andere, der bricht die Ehe. Und wer die abgeschiedene freyet, der bricht auch die Ehe.

10 Da sprachen die Jünger zu ihm: Stehet die Sache eines Manncs mit seinem Weibe also, so ist es nicht gut ehelich werden.

11 Er sprach aber zu ihnen: Das Wort fasset nicht Jedermann, sondern denen es gegeben ist.

12 Denn es sind etliche verschnitten, die sind aus Mutterleibe also geboren; und sind etliche verschnitten, die von Menschen verschnitten sind; und sind etliche verschnitten, die sich selbst verschnitten haben, um des Himmelreichs willen. Wer es fassen mag, der fasse

es!

13 Da wurden Kindlein zu ihm gebracht, daß er die Hände auf sie legete und betete; die Jünger aber führen sie

an.

14 Aber Jesus sprach: Lasset die Kindlein, und wehret ihnen nicht, zu mir zu kommen; denn solcher ist das Himmelreich.

4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning, made them male and female,

5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

8 He saith unto them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away, doth commit adultery.

10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.

11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray and the disciples rebuked them.

14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

15 und legte die Hände auf sle, und zog von dannen.

16 und siche, Einer trat zu ihm, und sprach: Guter Meister, was soll ich Gutes thun, daß ich das ewige Leben möge haben?

17 Er aber sprach zu ihm: Was heißest du mich gut? Niemand ist gut, denn der einige Gott. Willst du aber zum Leben eingehen, so halte die Gebote.

18 Da sprach er zu ihm: Welche? Jesus aber sprach: Du sollst nicht tödten. Du sollst nicht ehebrechen. Du sollst nicht stehlen. Du sollst nicht falsches Zeugniß geben.

19 Ehre Vater und Mutter. Und du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben als dich selbst.

20 Da sprach der Jüngling zu ihm: Das habe ich alles gehalten von meiner Jugend auf; was fehlt mir noch? 21 Jesus sprach zu ihm: Willst du vollkommen seyn, so gehe hin, verkaufe was du hast, und gib es den Armen, so wirst du einen Schatz im Himmel haben; und komm, und folge mir nach.

22 Da der Jüngling das Wort hörte, ging er betrübt von ihm; denn hatte viele Güter.

23 Jesus aber sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Wahrlich, ich sage euch, ein Reicher wird schwerlich ins Himmelreich kommen.

24 Und weiter sage ich euch: Es ist leichter, daß ein Kameel durch ein Nadelöhr gehe, denn daß ein Reicher ins Reich Gottes komme.

25 Da das seine Jünger höreten, entsetzten sie sich sehr und sprachen: Je, wer kann denn selig werden?

26 Jesus aber sah sie an, und sprach zu ihnen: Beh den Menschen ist es unmöglich, aber beh Gott sind alle Dinge möglich.

27 Da antwortete Petrus, und fprach zu ihm: Siehe, wir haben alles verlassen, und sind dir nachgefolget; was wird uns dafür?

28 Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen:

15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

16 And behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?

17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

27 ¶ Then answered Peter, and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And Jesus said unto them,

29 Und wer verläßt Häuser, oder Brüder, oder Schwestern, oder Vater, oder Mutter, oder Weib, oder Kinder, oder Aecker, um meines Namens willen, der wird es hundertfältig nehmen, und das ewige Leben ererben.

30 Aber Viele, die da sind die Ersten, werden die Letzten, und die Letzten werden die Ersten seyn.

Das 20 Capitel.

Das Himmelreich ist gleich einem am Bergen aus ging, Arbeiter zu miethen in seinen Weinberg.

2 Und da er mit den Arbeitern eins ward um einen Groschen zum Taglohn, sandte er sie in seinen Weinberg. 3 Und ging aus um die dritte Stunde, und fah andere an dem Markte müßig stehen,

4 und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet ihr auch hin in den Weinberg; ich will euch geben, was recht ist.

5 Und sie gingen hin. Abermal ging er aus um die sechste und neunte Stunde, und that gleich also.

6 Um die eilfte Stunde aber ging er aus, und fand andere müßig stehen, und sprach zu ihnen: Was stehet ihr hier den ganzen Tag müßig?

7 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Es hat uns Niemand gedinget. Er sprach zu ihnen: Gehet ihr auch hin in den Weinberg; und was recht seyn wird, soll euch werden.

8 Da es nun Abend ward, sprach der Herr des Weinbergs zu seinem Schaff ner: Rufe die Arbeiter, und gib ihnen den Lohn; und hebe an an den Letzten, bis zu den Ersten.

29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

30 But many that are first shall be last, and the last shall be first.

CHAPTER XX.

OR the kingdom of heaven is

householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.

2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the market-place,

4 And said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, I will give you. And they went their way.

5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.

6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.

8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

10 Da aber die Ersten kamen, meineten sie, sie würden mehr empfangen; und sie empfingen auch ein jeglicher seinen Groschen.

11 Und da sie den empfingen, murreten sie wider den Hausvater,

12 Und sprachen: Diese Letzten haben nur eine Stunde gearbeitet, und du hast sie uns gleich gemacht, die wir des Tages Last und Hitze getragen haben.

13 Er antwortete aber, und sagte zu einem unter ihnen: Mein Freund, ich thue dir nicht Unrecht. Bist du nicht mit mir eins geworden um einen Groschen?

14 Nimm was dein ist, und gehe hin! Ich will aber diesem Letzten geben, gleichwie dir.

15 Oder habe ich nicht Macht zu thun, was ich will mit dem Meinen? Siehest du darum scheel, daß ich so gütig bin?

16 Also werden die Letzten die Ersten, und die Ersten die Letzten seyn. Denn Viele sind berufen, aber Wenige sind auserwählet.

17 Und er zog hinauf gen Jerusalem, und nahm zu sich die zwölf Jünger besonders auf dem Wege, und sprach zu ihnen:

18 Siehe, wir ziehen hinauf gen Jerusalem, und des Menschen Sohn wird den Hohenpriestern und Schriftgelehrten überantwortet werden, und sie werden ihn verdammen zum Tode;

19 Und werden ihn überantworten den Heiden, zu verspotten, und zu geißeln, und zu kreuzigen; und am dritten Tage wird er wieder auferstehen.

20 Da trat zu ihm die Mutter der Kinder Zebedäi mit ihren Söhnen, fiel vor ihm nieder, und bat etwas von ihm.

21 Und er sprach zu ihr: Was willst du? Sie sprach zu ihm: Laß diese meine zween Söhne sitzen in deinem

11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the good man of the house,

12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.

15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? is thine eye evil because I am good?

16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

17 ¶ And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,

18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,

19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

20 T Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children, with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may
