(1) The full Sense of this Verse seems to be: Of his Fulness have all we received [Fulness] and Grace for or in Proportion to [his] Grace. There is in Chrift Jefus an infinite Fulness of divine Perfections. The Spirit was given to him without measure; and from him are derived to us Wifdom, Knowledge, Virtue, Affiftance, &c. in fuch Proportions and Degrees as we are capable of receiving them. See Dr. Clark's

Paraphrafe.

(2) God's gracious Design to help, affift, and Pardon penitent and returning Sinners of every Nation and Country, and to beftow Eternal Life upon them, was not made known in the Law of Mofes, as it is discovered in the Gospel of Chrift, who is the Truth and Subftance, and was fignified and prefigured by the typical Obfervances in the Law.

(1) God is a Spirit, and cannot be feen with mortal Eyes. Our know ledge of him in this Life is but imperfect. It is in the other State we are to expect to fee him as he is. Jacob is indeed, Gen. 32. 30. faid to have feen God Face to Face, and Mofes to have feen and talked with him; but thefe Expreffions are not to be understood literally, but as spoken after the manner of Men; for they only fignifie God's revealing and difcovering himself to them in a more full and clear manner than to others; they do not imply that they faw his Effence; for no Man can fee him as He is in himself and live. By the Coming of the Son of God into the World, who is in the Bofom of the Father, and is the Image of the invisible God, we Chriftians have a more diftin&t Knowledge of the Will and Ar tributes of God, than thofe who lived before, though favoured with im mediate Revelations by God.
