The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.-Isaiah lvii, 1.

I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death.Hosea xiii, 14.

And they shall be Mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels;

In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.St. Matthew ii, 18.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are ye that hunger now for ye shall be filled. : Blessed

are ye that weep now for ye shall laugh. St. Matthew v, 4, 21.

Now when He came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.-St. Luke vii, 12, 13. Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Jesus wept.-St. John xi, 23, 35.

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep,

that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. I Thessalonians iv, 13-18.

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.-Titus ii, 13.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.-Hebrews iv, 9

And one of the elders answered, saying

unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.-Revelations vii, 13, 14.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.-Revelations xxi, 4.

The Dread of Death.

God wishes

By nature we all fear Death. us to live our appointed time upon earth, and it seems as if He has given us all a desire to live, and a shrinking from death. Our fear of death varies a good deal according to our temperament, and our religious belief. Some people seem to have constitutionally no dread of death. Some have much fear at first but overcome it by their religious faith; while some seem hardly ever able to overcome their shrinking. Now we do not desire to have no dread of death simply because we are indifferent or careless as to the future. What we aim at is to realize the tremendous importance and value
